Microsoft releases MS-DOS based OS for Lumia smartphones

Down the memory lane : Microsoft launches MS-DOS based OS for Lumia smartphones

On April 1, Microsoft took Lumia users down the memory lane with the launch of a new productivity tool called DOS for Lumia smartphones. The news tool is designed to give Lumia users a wisp of nostalgia and yet provide powerful development tools. Named MS-DOS Mobile the tool has been made available on Windows Phone Store.

Microsoft said that it’s trying to “go back to where productivity began for millions of people.”

“Whether you’re going back to BASIC, or simply booting into DOS for the first time, MS-DOS Mobile marks the next step in Microsoft’s reinvention of productivity.” The OS will let you run installed apps, and also has a few easter eggs, to be found using C:/ prompt. Lead Designer Daniel Glass said, “Turning our back on graphics was hugely liberating. We’ve dropped the resolution, and in doing so re-discovered our roots. The inspiration for the graphical design is Courier New meets film noir.”
