Digital hypocrisy : Steve Jobs didnt let his children use iPad yet Apple wants to sell them to your children
You may have been asked by your child to get you an iPad for his/her birthday or any other occasion. You may have complied with his/her wish out of your love for your child or because you want your child to be ahead in the field of technology. Tim Cook holds a much hyped launch for Apple’s iPad and goes globe trotting to sell these around.
But did you know that Steve Jobs, erstwhile CEO of Apple and the man behind iPad and other Apple innovations didnt let his children use iPad. Not many know this but when New York Times reporter Nick Bilton asked Jobs, “So your kids must love the iPad?”
Jobs responded:
“They haven’t used it. We limit how much technology our kids use at home.”
Jobs is not alone in controlling what their children use in the Silicon Valley. Many tech CEOs and tech execs shield their children from technology. There is actually a trend among the execs and engineers from Silicon Valley to send their children to non-tech schools like the Waldorf School in Los Altos, where computers aren’t found anywhere because they only focus on hands-on learning.
Yet these very CEOs, tech execs and engineers develop products, Apps and games to entice your children to do what they have protected their own kids from.
Here is another top CEO from Silicon Valley, Chris Anderson, CEO of 3D Robotics and a father of five, who explained The Times what drives those who work in tech to keep it from their kids.
“My kids accuse me and my wife of being fascists and overly concerned about tech, and they say that none of their friends have the same rules… That’s because we have seen the dangers of technology firsthand. I’ve seen it in myself, I don’t want to see that happen to my kids.”
This sheer hypocrisy doesnt seem to bother the CEOs and developers who go round the globe selling their products to others children.
So the next time you think about how you will raise your kids, you may want to (highly) consider not giving them whatever fancy tech we’ll have while they are growing up. Play outside with them and surround them with nature; they might hate you, but they will absolutely thank you for it later. In future, if your child/ward asks for a gadget on his/her birthday show him this article.
ok, so you’re trying to say Steve is a hypocrite when you have a quote from him saying

if he want’s to limit how much technology his kids have at home then so be it, i don’t see how that’s a bad thing. he does not want’s his kids to be spoiled with technology, which i agree with him. if other people want to buy there kids iPad’s then it’s the parents choice, apple by no means is responsible for selling iPad’s to children, and neither do they target iPad’s to children in commercials or on there website. take a look on apple’s website and the only thing that appeals to children is gaming, they rarely show that on there website, it’s mostly about photo editing/video editing, productivity, multi tasking, and workflow. so i don’t know how you came to this conclusion

like i said, apple isn’t responsible for selling iPad’s to you’re children when it’s the parents choice to do so, the only people who target children like you said is developers, obviously they make games that appeal to kids so they get there parents to buy them iTunes gift cards so they can purchase the games, but again this is the parents choice, and even the developers aren’t forcing you to buy the game for the child or even forcing you to buy a iPad.
