The world’s thinnest smartphone running on Android Marshmallow, Moto Z is here

The World’s Thinnest Smartphone ‘Moto Z’ Unveiled At Tech World 2016 along with Moto Z Force

At the Lenovo Tech World 2016 in San Francisco, Lenovo-owned Motorola introduced two new smartphones: the Moto Z and the Moto Z Force, both exclusive to Verizon Wireless and both available in the U.S. this summer. These high powered smartphones have added functionality to the table with Moto Mods.

The company has announced the Moto Z as the thinnest and most powerful phone ever released. Further, both the devices will be powered by Qualcomm 2.2 GHz Snapdragon 820 SoC processors, 5.5-inch Quad HD AMOLED displays, 4GB low-power DDR4 RAM, a choice of 32GB or 64GB of storage, which is expandable via microSD card (up to 2TB). They also run Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow, feature a fingerprint scanner on the home button, sport a USB Type-C port, and omit the 3.5mm headphone jack.

The Moto Z comes with a 13MP rear camera with f/1.8 aperture, while Moto Z Force comes with a 21MP camera on the back with f/1.8 aperture. Both the smartphones have 5MP front camera with f/2.2 lens and have optical image stabilisation along with support features like phase-detect auto focus.

The Moto Z has a 2600 mAh battery and comes with 30 hours of battery life and impressive quick charging technology that gives you 8 extra hours after just 15 minutes. On the other hand, the Moto Z Force has a 3500 mAh battery and includes a massive 40 hour battery life and the ability to get 15 hours back after a 15 minute Turbo Charge.

Both Moto Z phones have 16 pins on the back cover. These can be used to connect Moto Mods to the phones. Currently three Moto Mods – JBL speaker, a projector, a battery pack – are available. Both phones have modular design. The Moto Z and the Moto Z Force have water-repellent coating.

The major difference between the Moto Z and Moto Z Force is that at 5.2mm, Moto Z is the world’s thinnest smartphone with an aluminium and stainless steel body, while Moto Z Force is slight thicker at 7mm. However, it does come with ShatterShield technology that Motorola claims to make the display strong enough to survive in the case of a drop.

The Moto Z range is launching in the US soon and the Moto Z will launch around the world in September 2016. It’s not yet known when the Moto Z Force will arrive outside America. Also, no information has been provided on the pricing of these smartphones.
