Get 4G/LTE at the rate of 3G; Airtel starts 4G trial in Mumbai
Indian telecom major Bharti Airtel has started rolling 4G/LTE services in Mumbai. ย Though the services are on trial basis, Airtel is offering the 4G/LTE download/upload speed to Mumbaikars at the same rate as 3G for now. Airtel is offering 4G services for both smartphones and dongles and it says it will be upgrading to 4G services for free which means that Airtel will be providing 4G SIM cards to its existing customers in Mumbai for free.
Airtel has partnered with Flipkart to sell the service bundled with the devices of brands like Xiaomi, Motorola, Lenovo, Asus and Huawei, online. Other than Flipkart for online sales, Airtel has also inked a deal with Samsung to distribute 4G. Under the partnership with the South Korean handset maker, both the companies will promote each others’ 4G offerings at their respective outlets.
“We want our existing customers to be the first ones to enjoy the Airtel 4G experience and are offering them a free upgrade to Airtel 4G at the same price as 3G,” Gujarat Ashok Ganapathy Bharti Airtel CEO for Mumbai, Maharashtra and Goa said in a statement.
Ganapathy says that they will use the information gathered during the trial period to gauge the customer feedback regarding quality of their 4G service.
