Motorola releases Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update for Moto G 1st and 2nd Gen, Moto X 1st and 2nd Gen, and Moto E 2nd Gen LTE version

Motorola releases Android 5.1.1 update for Moto G 1st and 2nd Generation, Moto X 1st and 2nd Generation, and Moto E 2nd Generation LTE version smartphones

With the Google’s new operating system Android M already in the works, Android smartphone manufacturers are rushing in updates of Android 5.1 Lollipop to their recent releases. Motorola which is now owned by Lenovo is also pushing out Android Lollipop firmware updates for its Moto G (1st and 2nd Generation), the Moto X (1st and 2nd Generation), not to mention the Moto E (2nd Generation) 4G/LTE version.

According to Yibada, among the Motorola smartphones that are being moved on to Android 5.1 Lollipop is the Motorola Moto G 2nd generation or the Motorola Moto G2, along with five other Motorola Moto devices including its predecessor, the Motorola Moto G, the Moto X 1st and 2nd Generation, and the Moto E 2nd Generation 4G LTE version.

Except for Motorola Moto G 2nd Gen which was updated from Android 4.4 KitKat to Android Lollipop 5.0 before this update, all other Motorola phones will be getting Android 5.1 Lollipop directly from KitKat version.

The update brings  a much-improved camera and a larger screen for Moto G 2nd Generation. While Android 5.1 Lollipop is a biggish update, it returns the silent mode missing that went missing in Android 5.0, improves system stability, offers better RAM battery management, and fixes sudden app closures, Wi-Fi problems and sound problems”.

Other than that, the update comes with the standard bug fixes and security enhancements.  The Android 5.1 Lollipop update on the Motorola Moto smartphones also includes native support for more those versions which have more than one SIM-card smartphone. The user can also join Wi-Fi networks and control paired Bluetooth devices directly from the Quick Settings section of the notification bar.

Since the updates will come over-the-air (OTA), owners of these Motorola Moto smartphones should regularly check the settings of their handsets to see if the system updates are already available for download. Be sure to use only Wi-Fi for updating your Moto smartphones.

Update : Many of our readers have asked us about the ETA of the update through comments and on our Facebook page. We would like to let you know that currently, the first and second generations of Moto X and Moto G recently received the Android 5.1 Lollipop OS in the United States. The rest of the world release should be in coming weeks.

Also Motorola is reportedly working on the new version of Android for all its devices, details of which will be given as soon as they become available.

  1. I also have the Moto X 2nd Gen and it already has the 5.0 update but nothing available OTA yet. I check pretty much every day and still nothing. It could be a delay on Verizon’s part though if Moto has already released it .

  2. This is really upset and i am really frustrated waiting the update.Motorola always said update is coming soon but its like soon refers to a year. I am a big fan of moto but not any more i am tired of it

  3. …and so it continues. I’ve been expecting an update “any day now” since December last year, putting off rooting my phone to ensure I got an OTA update. No more…
