iPhone SE 2 concept video shows full glass rear and an edge-to-edge display

iPhone SE 2 featuring notch and full glass rear shown in latest concept video

Ever since Apple launched its popular budget handset, the iPhone SE in March 2016, there have been rumors and leaks of the Cupertino giant working on its successor, iPhone SE 2.

Now, an artist (Dr. Gunho Lee for ConceptsiPhone) has reimagined the iPhone SE 2 in a concept video (see below) showing what the modern smartphone could look like.

As we can see, the video showcases the iPhone SE 2 with an edge-to-edge display a screen cutout (notch) for Face ID camera. This means that the smartphone will not have the Home button and Touch ID from its predecessor, the iPhone SE. It also features the same 4-inch display as the iPhone SE.

Further, the concept video shows that the smartphone has a full glass rear, which means it could enable Qi wireless charging. It also shows a single rear camera with a bump that protrudes through the case. One can also notice the volume buttons (+/-) and alert slider on the left side of the smartphone, while the power on/off button on the right side.

The successor to the iPhone SE is also shown in a number of colors, namely, red, gold, silver, and blue. The video also hints that the iPhone SE 2 could launch in ‘coming spring’. In the past too, there were strong rumors that an iPhone SE 2 would come out in mid-2018; however, this never turned into reality.

Since this is just a concept video, we cannot depend completely on the above-mentioned information. Do let us know what do you think about this possible iPhone SE 2 concept in the comments section mentioned below.

Hackers can access iCloud-locked iPhones using fake receipts and phishing kits

Hackers can access iCloud-locked iPhones

Hackers, Thieves, and Repair Shops Access iCloud-Locked iPhones, Here’s How

Hackers, thieves, and repair shops have discovered a new way to bypass the ‘Find My iPhone’ feature on iCloud-locked iPhones so that they can sell stolen or non-stolen devices, according to a report from Motherboard.

For those unaware, “Find my iPhone” is an app and service from Apple, which lets you locate, lock down or wipe your lost iPhone, iPad, iPod, or Macbook and requires a password to continue. Apple had introduced this feature in 2013 to safeguard people’s information stored on their iPhones.

In order to keep iPhones secure and make it less valuable targets to would-be thieves, iPhones can be associated only to one iCloud account at a time. This means that the hackers and thieves need to figure a way out to remove the iCloud account from the iPhone in order to sell the stolen device to someone else or for someone new to use it. The iCloud account can only be removed by entering the Apple ID password.

“The iCloud security feature has likely cut down on the number of iPhones that have been stolen, but enterprising criminals have found ways to remove iCloud in order to resell devices. To do this, they phish the phone’s original owners, or scam employees at Apple Stores, which have the ability to override iCloud locks. Thieves, coders, and hackers participate in an underground industry designed to remove a user’s iCloud account from a phone so that they can then be resold,” according to Motherboard.

In order to get into iCloud-locked iPhones, thieves are now producing fake receipts and invoices to fool Apple into believing that they are the actual owners of the phone. While the tricks include social engineering at Apple Stores, there are also “custom phishing kits for sale online designed to steal iCloud passwords from a phone’s original owner,” mentions Motherboard.

Additionally, a few hackers also reprogram stolen iPhones with a new IMEI. Besides this, there are also forums for the hacker community where they share new methods and tips to break into locked iPhones.

Even some unnamed repair companies have become actual customers of companies that illegally reset and reactivate the iCloud-locked iPhone.

“There are many listings on eBay, Craigslist, and wholesale sites for phones billed as ‘iCloud-locked,’ or ‘for parts’ or something similar,” added Motherboard. “While some of these phones are almost certainly stolen, many of them are not. According to three professionals in the independent repair and iPhone refurbishing businesses, used iPhones — including some iCloud-locked devices — are sold in bulk at private ‘carrier auctions’ where companies like T-Mobile, Verizon, Sprint, AT&T, and cell phone insurance providers sell their excess inventory (often through third-party processing companies.)”

Basically, in the event your iPhone is stolen or lost, ensure that you change the password of your iCloud account immediately. Further, beware of phishing scams and carefully check the addresses or URLs of the websites you visit, especially login pages. It is recommended to keep a unique password not only for your iCloud account but also for every other online account. Also, ensure that you have enabled two-step authentication on your iCloud account.

Cydia app store disables purchases option for jailbroken iPhones

Cydia app store disables purchases option for jailbroken iPhones

New Purchases For JailBroken iPhones Closed Down On Cydia App Store

Cydia app store creator Jay “Saurik” Freeman on Friday announced in a Reddit post that software purchases would no longer be available on Cydia App Store.

For the unaware, Cydia App Store for iOS provides user software packages that can be installed on jailbroken iPhones, iPads and iPod touch devices. Basically, it allows users to install software from third-party by bypassing Apple’s own App Store lockdown.

However, the number of users who have cracked the iPhone has decreased in recent years due to Apple’s iOS ecosystem has grown more strong and secure.

While Freeman had initial plans to shut down the store purchases option by the end of 2018, a recently found security vulnerability in the app that would allow hackers to buy apps using other people’s accounts led to the shut down earlier than planned.

“The reality is that I wanted to just shut down the Cydia Store entirely before the end of the year, and was considering moving the timetable up after receiving the report (to this weekend); this service loses me money and is not something I have any passion to maintain: it was a critical component of a healthy ecosystem, and for a while it helped fund a small staff of people to maintain the ecosystem, but it came at great cost to my sanity and led lots of people to irrationally hate me due to what amounted to a purposeful misunderstanding of how profit vs. revenue works,” he writes.

The shutting down announcement does not mean the immediate end of jailbreaking since Freeman will continue to bear the cost of running the platform. iOS users will still be able to download apps that they have purchased from Cydia store in the past; however, they would now be no longer able to purchase new apps.

Further, Freeman is going to publish a more “formal” post this week with further details about the past and future of Cydia.

What to Do If Your iPhone or iPad got stuck on Apple logo?

Stuck Apple Logo

There are situations when people have frozen iPhone and iPad on Apple logo during startup.

And, if you are also one of those, then you need not to worry because here in this article we are providing you with the ways to get rid of this Startup loop.

Also Read – How to factory reset an iPhone or iPad?

Why does it occur?

This problem mainly occurs when there is some issue with the operating system or better if we say something is preventing the phone from booting up like normal.

Though it’s very difficult for a normal user to point out the exact same reason but following are some of the points which might be the reason for its occurrence.

  • Problems while upgrading to new version of iOS
  • Problems while jailbreaking the iPhone
  • Running the Beta version of iOS which is already expired.

Ways to fix Frozen iPhone or iPad (Stuck on Apple logo)

1. Restart your Device

The first thing you should do to solve this problem is just to restart your device. It may or may not fix the issue, but surely is the simplest way you can try as the first option.

2. Recovery Mode

The second best option you can try is to put your iPhone on a Recovery mode.

To do this you need to connect your iPhone with iTunes then restore the fresh installation of iOS or load a backup of your data to your iPhone.

Recovery mode works well in most cases as compared with the Restart option.

3. DFU Mode

Last but definitely not the least, if you tried all the above-mentioned ways and they haven’t worked for you then you should try this one.

The term DFU stands for Device Firmware Update.

This mode basically stops your iPhone from booting up all the way so that you can connect it to iTunes for fresh iOS installation.

But before proceeding further one thing to keep in mind is that DFU Mode takes some practice to use as it has few precise steps to follow.

Steps to enter DFU Mode:

  1. Launch iTunes on your laptop or computer and if you don’t have any of these then you need to make some time for the Apple store near you.
  2. Connect the iPhone with computer/Laptop using the USB cable that came packed with the iPhone.
  3. Turn off the iPhone. If it doesn’t get turned off simply hold the on/off button until the screen goes dark.
  4. After the phone is off, hold down the On/Off button for 3 seconds more.
  5. When 3 seconds have passed, keep holding the On/Off button and start pressing the Home button on the front of the iPhone.
  6. Hold both the buttons for 10 seconds.
  7. Now let go the on/off button but keep holding the home button.
  8. If anything is displayed on the screen then you are not in DFU mode and you need to start again the process from step 1.
  9. Otherwise, if the screen stays black and doesn’t display anything, you’re in DFU Mode.
  10. Once you’re in DFU Mode, a pop-up window appears in iTunes on your computer and prompts you to restore your iPhone. You can either restore your iPhone to factory settings or load a backup of your data onto the phone.

Apple restarts iPhone X production over poor iPhone XS, XS Max sales

Apple restarts iPhone X production over poor iPhone XS, XS Max sales

Poor iPhone XS, XS Max sales force Apple to restart production of iPhone X

Apple had halted the production of its 10th-anniversary smartphone, iPhone X to make way for its three new iPhones for 2018 – the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR.

However, Apple has restarted the production of iPhone X in ‘certain markets’ due to poor sales of iPhone XS and XS Max, according to a report by The Wall Street Journal. Apple has also decided to cut production on all new iPhones.

According to WSJ, Apple had agreed to purchase a certain number of OLED display panels from Samsung. However, weak sales of the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max has forced Apple to resume production of the iPhone X so that the company can fulfill the terms of its agreement with Samsung.

In other words, Apple will use iPhone X to compensate for the OLED panel demand gap caused by the decrease in sales of iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max. Also, as iPhone X’s components and manufacturing equipment are older, production costs will be lower and cheaper than the iPhone XS series.

Apple’s iPhone XS and XS Max that were launched in September this year haven’t seen a good sale due to its hefty price tag. Also, the affordable iPhone XR has not fared well, which prompted Apple to cut production orders for iPhone XR.

This could be attributed to the low price and popularity of iPhone 8 even after a year of its release. In order to boost sales of iPhone XR in Japan, the Cupertino giant has already provided sales subsidies to Japanese telecom operators, which in turn should reduce the price of the smartphone.

With Apple looking to restart production of iPhone X, it remains to be seen if this move will help the company recover from the setback caused by poor sales of iPhone XS and XS Max.

iPhone X explodes after iOS 12.1 Update

iPhone X explodes after iOS 12.1 Update

Recently Apple Support has responded to a report of an exploding iPhone X, where the victim is claiming that while he was installing the new iOS 12.1 update the phone went hot and exploded.

The news is from the city of Federal Way (Washington) where a guy named “Rahel Mohamad” twitted about the incident.

He said that “This year early January I bought the iPhone and have been using it normally.” The iPhone X was in process of getting new iOS 12.1 update and when Mohamad put it on charging at a later stage, he observed a “Dark grey smoke started coming from the phone.

The update was completed and as soon as the phone turned on it immediately started to smoke and caught fire.”

He also said that he was using the official bundled Apple Lightning cable and a wall adapter to charge his iPhone(see the image below).

However due to some reason he had to stop the charging of his iPhone which is just before the explosion.

Mohamad said, “When I held the phone it was very hot and I drop the phone immediately on the floor. Then it started to smoke.” he added.”

He reached out Apple which wishes to investigate the incident further by getting Mohamad to ship the iPhone X to them. In reply to his tweet, Apple Support also said that this is definitely not expected behavior and would wish to resolve it soon.

This is not the first incident of smartphones exploding. A few years back Samsung had to recall its Galaxy Note 7 after several of its units exploded while in use.

Just to recall, Apple’s iPhone X was launched last year and its design change marked the tenth anniversary of the company’s legendary iPhone range. Now, let’s see how soon they respond with the report of the actual reason for the incident.

Stay tuned for more.

Apple’s New Patent Hints At In-Display Selfie Camera

Apple’s New Patent Hints At In-Display Selfie Camera

Next Apple iPhone may have a hole in its display, patent reveals

Apple who started the “notch” design standard that saw every other Android OEM incorporating in its smartphone is looking to trend set another legacy.

The Cupertino giant who had filed a patent back in June for a camera cut-out in the display has finally been approved. The patent titled “Integrated Camera Window” was approved by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) on November 8.

The folks at LetsGoDigital who discovered Apple’s new patent shows an iPhone with a hole for the camera in the display. In other words, Apple is looking to place the iPhone’s front camera under the device’s screen in its future phones, thereby killing the notch design.

With this patent, Apple joins the list of companies such as Samsung, Asus, and LG who have filed similar patents in the past. However, Apple’s patent is a bit different from its contemporaries.

According to the patent, Apple wants to fit the camera window with a ‘cover glass’ where cover glass refers to the display. This display technology is presently applicable only to the LCD screen.

“Apparatus, systems, and methods for camera integration with a cover glass and for processing cover glass to provide a camera window for an electronic device are disclosed. A camera window can be integrated into the cover glass. The apparatus, systems, and methods are especially suitable for cover glasses, or displays (e.g., LCD displays), assembled in small form factor electronic devices such as handheld electronic devices (e.g., mobile phones, media players, personal digital assistants, remote controls, etc.,” the patent description reads.

Besides iPhones, other electronic devices such as portable computers, tablet computers, displays, monitors, televisions as well as iPads, MacBooks, and iMacs could see in-display camera technology soon.

While patents are filed all the time, it is not necessary that every patent is converted into a finished commercial product or even a prototype. Whether or not, Apple will go ahead and implement the display technology in its future devices, only time will tell.

Apple Announces Repair Program For Faulty iPhone X and 13-Inch MacBook Pro Units

Apple Announces Repair Program For Faulty iPhone X and 13-Inch MacBook Pro Units

Apple offers free repairs to fix quality problems in some faulty iPhone X units and 13-inch MacBook Pro models

Apple has launched a free replacement programme around the world for the affected iPhone X owners who are experiencing touchscreen issues.

Apparently, Apple found out that screens of some iPhone X models either aren’t responsive to touch or responds intermittently to touch. In some cases, it noted that iPhone screen reacts even though it was not touched.

“Apple has determined that some iPhone X displays may experience touch issues due to a component that might fail on the display module. Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider will replace the display module on eligible devices, free of charge.” the company said on the official support page.

According to Apple, the touch issues may be due to a component failure on the iPhone X’s display module, adding it would fix the screen on faulty devices for free. The company said the problem only affects the original iPhone X, and not the recently launched the iPhone XS, XS Max and XR.

Apple has noted that if the iPhone X owner has already replaced the screen prior to the replacement programme, he/she is eligible to get a refund. They are advised to contact Apple support for more information.

However, Apple warns iPhone X owners that “If your iPhone X has any damage which impairs the ability to complete the repair, such as a cracked screen, that issue will need to be resolved prior to the service. In some cases, there may be a cost associated with the additional repair.”

Meanwhile, Apple has also confirmed that a “limited number” of 13-inch MacBook Pro units were facing a hard drive problem, that could result in data loss and failure of the storage drive.

In a note to customers, the company says, “Apple has determined that a limited number of 128GB and 256GB solid-state drives (SSD) used in 13-inch MacBook Pro (non-TouchBar) units have an issue that may result in data loss and failure of the drive.” The company suggests affected users to have their laptops “serviced as soon as possible.”

Users can put in their serial number on a page on the Apple Support website to confirm if they have an affected MacBook Pro. The affected model in question is the “MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2017, Two Thunderbolt 3 ports).” No other macOS notebooks are experiencing hard drive issues.

Hacker discovers iPhone Passcode Bypass in iOS 12.1 just hours after its release

Hacker discovers iPhone Passcode Bypass in iOS 12.1 just hours after its release

New iOS Passcode Bypass Found Hours After Apple Releases iOS 12.1

Apple considered as the highly secured device was bypassed shortly after the Cupertino giant released the latest version of its mobile operating system, iOS 12.1 on Tuesday.

Jose Rodriguez, a Spanish security researcher, and an iPhone enthusiast has managed to find a passcode bypass bug that allows attackers to access the contacts list on a locked iPhone.

Rodriguez shared a video (see below) with The Hacker News to show how the bug works.

As detailed in the video, the passcode bypass bug is present in a new feature introduced in iOS 12.1 called Group FaceTime. This bug can be exploited by either receiving a phone call or asking Siri to make a phone, and by changing the call to FaceTime.

Once switched to a FaceTime call, go to the bottom right menu and select “Add Person.” This will give access to the complete contact list of the targeted iPhone in spite of the device being locked. Further, by using the 3D Touch feature, you can see additional information of every contact in the contact list.

According to Rodriguez, the new passcode bypass bug would work on only those iPhone models that support Apple’s Group FaceTime added in the iOS 12.1 release, as the attack utilizes Apple’s Facetime.

The researcher also found that the hack works even without having Siri or VoiceOver screen reader feature enabled on a target iPhone.

Last month, a similar passcode bypass bug was discovered by Rodriguez in iOS 12 that takes advantage of Siri and VoiceOver screen reader and allows an attacker to access photos and contact details on a locked iPhone XS as well as other Apple devices.
