OnePlus, the company behind the killer flagship OnePlus One had announced last month that it has plans to launch the successor to their phone on July 27, via a virtual reality event. To get the virtual reality experience, OnePlus has released the OnePlus Cardboard.
Looks like OnePlus is very serious about its launch and the company should be. The OnePlus 2 will be the next big thing from the Chinese smartphone maker; one that covers all the flaws of the OnePlus One and will take the brand’s image to new levels.
Carl Pei, Founder of OnePlus in a post on the OnePlus Forum said, “We’re excited for the future. As a tech startup, our goal is to push the envelope, look for new opportunities, and strive to perfect them. Virtual reality holds a monumental amount of potential. With cutting-edge technology, we can explore corners of the world like never before. We already know that VR will change the face of the entertainment industry, but we’re here to try something new.”
Regarding OnePlus Cardboard, a statement from OnePlus said “This is not just a product; it’s an initiative. We aren’t making any money by offering OnePlus Cardboard. In fact, we are losing money with each one. There will come a day in which we will be able to travel the world and immerse ourselves in amazing things without ever leaving the comfort of our homes. OnePlus Cardboard exists to drive this idea forward.”
OnePlus says their Cardboard is uses a stronger, thicker material and has an added high-quality velcro for maximum durability. OnePlus Cardboard is also compatible with most devices up to 6-inches in size.
The statement also added, “It’s still about VR for everyone. With the OnePlus Cardboard and any smartphone in tow, one can also explore a variety of applications that unfold all around you. Visit new places, play immersive games, fly through space and much more with the variety of apps available on the Google Store.”
Users could sign up and participate in a content that closes tomorrow to get the OnePlus Cardboard, the statement said.

As far as OnePlus 2 goes, the company has confirmed Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 v2.1 processor and Type C-USB port. The Type C-USB supports various new USB standards like USB 3.1 and USB power delivery (USB PD). It also supports HDMI, DisplayPort, VGA with adapters of course. OnePlus also confirmed that the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 v2.1 processor has been designed for OnePlus 2 and they have worked to prevent heating issues faced by other phones using the chipset.
