Windows Phone Is the Most Secure Mobile Platform

Windows Phone is the most secure mobile OS says white hat hacker

Privacy these days is the biggest concern for mobile owners and handset makers after Edward Snowden revealed how UK intelligence agency GCHQ (Government Communications Headquarters) without the knowledge of the owners uses special software to access phones.

Android is the most insecure mobile platform available on the market, as every month new susceptibilities are discovered by Google. Although these problems are notified to the Android OEMs by the company, only few of them are willing to patch them up and push security updates to phones that are affected.

So, which is the current mobile operating system that is secure?

According to white hat hacker and penetration tester Steve Lord, who runs Mandalorian Security Services Ltd, and has more than 15 years experience in the field thinks that Windows Phone is the most secure mobile platform and the hardest to crack.

โ€œAll have benefits and drawbacks. Currently Windows Phone seems to be the hardest nut to crack. Blackberry has a long history of being very security-focused. If I have physical access to the device, I find Androidโ€™s usually the easiest target. Then comes iPhone, then older versions of BlackBerry. If itโ€™s over a network or I have to attack via email or message, Androidโ€™s usually the softest target.

He recommends users to try and use an old Blackberry 10 smartphone or a feature phone to the ones who cannot afford newer smartphones. A smartphone running Windows Phone 8 or newer, too would be a good choice.

While Steve says that Cyanogen OS is more secure on Android smartphones, he also suggests that one should opt for the Nexus-branded devices if you want to use an Android device, as Nexus devices usually receive security updates very often.
