Gionee launches Elife E8 with 24MP camera and Marathon M5 with a massive 6,000 mAh battery

Gionee Elife E8 with a whopping 24MP camera and Marathon M5 with a massive 6,000 mAh battery launched in China

Gionee has unveiled its latest flagship, the Gionee Elife E8 and a second Marathon M5 smartphone in Beijing, China.

At the launch event, Gionee’s Chairman Liu Lirong said that “While everyone looks to provide the cheapest smartphone, we look to provide the best quality at the most reasonable price.” He also added that the MWarathon M5 targets the problem of low battery life, while the Elife E8 aims to tackle the problem of poor picture quality.

Let’s have a look at the specs of Gionee Elife 8. Known for their camera, it looks like Gionee has taken the new E8 a notch higher with a 24MP rear camera. Gionee claims that the new E8 can produce images of up to 100MP resolution. It also claims to be the first Android smartphone to come with lossless imagery at 3X zoom. Further, it is equipped with an 8MP front-facing camera.

The E8 will feature a 6-inch Super AMOLED display with 1440 x 2540p resolution. It will run the Android 5.1 (Lollipop) operating system with Gionee’s Amigo 3.1 UI on top. It has a MediaTek MTK6795 Chipset which is an octa-core processor clocked at 2.0 GHz. E8 comes with 3GB RAM coupled with 64GB of inbuilt storage.

The dual-sim smartphone supports 4G, NFC, as well as standard connectivity options. It also features a fingerprint scanner and has dual speakers to support High Fidelity sound. It is powered by a 3,500mAh battery that completes the package.

On the other hand, Marathon M5 comes equipped with 6,000mAh battery. The company claims that the batteries can last up to 4 days. It also features an extreme mode that can boost standby time at 5 percent battery life to 62 hours. As expected, the smartphone supports reverse charging, which allows users to use the Marathon M5 as a power bank to charge other devices. It also features a fast charging system, but no details have been revealed how long would it will take to completely charge the dual battery setup.

As for the specs, it comes with a 5.5-inch AMOLED screen with 720x1280p resolution. The Marathon M5 also runs on Android Lollipop (version unspecified), and is a dual-SIM smartphone with 4G LTE functionality on both SIM card slots.

It is powered by a 64-bit 1.5GHz quad-core MediaTek MT6735 SoC coupled with 2GB of RAM. It comes with 16GB of internal storage capacity, which can be expanded via microSD card (maximum capacity unspecified). It also features a 13-megapixel rear camera, and a 5-megapxiel front camera.

The Elife E8 is priced at CNY 3,999 (roughly Rs. 40,000), and will go on sale in China on July 15. On the other hand, the Marathon M5 is priced at CNY 2,299 (roughly Rs. 23,000), which will be available in China on June 25.
