Xiaomi slashes price of the Redmi Note 4G, now at Rs. 7,999

Xiaomi gives discount of Rs. 2,000 on Redmi Note 4G, now available at Rs. 7,999

Indian smartphone buyers have never had it this good. After announcing discounts on Xiaomi Mi smartphones, Xiaomi today announced a ‘jaw-dropping’ discount of Rs. 2,000 in the price of its Redmi Note 4G variant. Starting Tuesday, the company said that the phablet, which was earlier available for Rs 9,999, will now be available for Rs 7,999.

According to a press note shared by the company, “Now, lower costs have enabled us to reduce the price of Redmi Note 4G, and this translates into savings that Mi fans can enjoy.”

Launched in November last year, the Redmi Note 4G has been one of Xiaomi’s runaway successes in the country. Though the accurate figures are not available, it is estimated that the company sold tens of thousands of handsets in just a few weeks in flash sales on Flipkart.

The Redmi Note 4G first went on sale in India in December 2014. It was Xiaomi’s very first 4G device to be introduced in India, with support for both 4G bands. The Redmi Note 4G has a 5.5inch HD IPS Display. It is powered by a 1.6GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 MSM8928 processor coupled with 2GB of RAM. The phone packs in 3,100mAh battery and runs Xiaomi’s MIUI OS.

On the storage front, it comes with 8GB of internal storage capacity, which can be expandable up to 64GB via microSD. The smartphone comes equipped with 13MP rear camera along with a 5MP front camera for selfies.

For the last few months, at least a dozen new smartphones have entered the crowded Indian market. These handsets are particularly budget handsets, generally offering mid to high-end devices at prices that are normally under Rs. 10,000. For instance, the recently launched K3 Note from Lenovo is priced at Rs. 9,999 and has much better tech specs than the Redmi Note 4G.

The Redmi Note 4G went on sale late last year through the flash sale model on Flipkart. Later, the company tied up with Airtel and other offline retail partners. Starting today, it can now be purchased from online as well as brick and mortar stores.
