However, no details as to how would the fingerprint scanner technology has been disclosed in the new report. This confirms the previous report that had mentioned that Xiaomi had filed a patent and detailed the fingerprint recognition method via the handset’s buttons.

Going by the new purported specs leaked by Mobipicker, which according to Phone Arena are legal, the Xiaomi Mi 5 smartphone will feature an upgraded display, faster processor and a spacious RAM.

According to the publication, Xiaomi Mi 5 will sport a 5.3-inch Quad HD display with 1440 x 2560 pixels resolution that can offer pixel density of 554ppi. While the design of the new handset is not yet disclosed, we can expect the Chinese smartphone company to make basic changes to the Mi 4 successor.

The other specs leaked about the Mi 5 smartphone include 4GB RAM and storage options of 16GB or 64GB with microSD card expansion. Xiaomi is also looking out for the industry’s highest security standard in smartphones for its Mi 5.

Adding to the list of upgrades in the Mi5 smartphone will be camera sensors on both sides. The rear camera said to sport a 16MP resolution, and the front camera a 6MP resolution for selfie lovers. The device is likely to have a 3030mAh battery at the back of the device. Although, there is no information on the pricing and availability of the Mi 5 smartphone, it is very much likely that the Mi 5 will be as affordable as Xiaomi’s existing flagship smartphones. An Mi5 Plus is said to be in the making as well, while there has been no word on its hardware other than that it might feature a 6-inch bezel-less display.
