Tesla owner tries Autopilot from back seat while driving at 55 miles per hour

The car manufacturer Tesla had launched a new Autopilot system last month which assists the drivers to drive without using steering wheel for a brief time. Ever since it was launched, there have been many videos by Tesla car drivers showcasing Tesla’s semi-autonomous technology. Many of these videos show drivers sitting in the steering wheel but an unknown user has released a video which shows to the Tesla owner undertake the daring stunt a bit further and sits in the backseat while filming the Autopilot feature doing all of the work.

The video which can be called a stupidity as well as a daring stunt has been uploaded to YouTube and has so far garnered some 20K views. The Tesla owner appears to be driving down a Dutch highway at speeds of 51 miles per hour, with other cars clearly driving alongside it. Needless to say, the video is disturbing is a bit unnerving.

Such absurd and high risk videos have been noted by Tesla as well. During an earnings conference call last week, CEO Elon Musk acknowledged that he had seen some of the videos and said that the company would be updating the feature to put more constraints on it. Tesla has reiterated that its Autopilot is designed to only assist driver in driving and not a complete auto driving solution.

“There’s been some fairly crazy videos on YouTube…this is not good,” Musk said. “And we will be putting some additional constraints on when Autopilot can be activated to minimize the possibility of people doing crazy things with it.”
