Nintendo to launch NES Classic Edition this November

Nintendo to release a mini NES console with 30 classic games this november

Thanks to the runaway success of Pokemon Go phenomenon, Nintendo has announced to launch a new, mini Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) Classic console packed with 30 original NES games. The NES Classic Edition will go on sale from November 11 priced at $59.99.

However, there is a notable change. The mini-console will come with a replica version of the original NES controller, and packed with 30 built-in games, including classics like Super Mario Bros 1, 2 and 3, The Legend of Zelda, Punch Out, Balloon Fight, Castlevania, Final Fantasy, Donkey Kong, Bubble Bobble and more. The NES packs has much smaller form factor this time around, and judging by the promo shots it sits neatly in the palm of your hand.

The miniature version of the console uses an HDMI cable to plug directly into a television set and is described by the company as a “near-identical, mini replica” version of the original NES console, which was released in 1985.

For those who want to play with a second player, Nintendo confirmed that the replica console will support two-player functionality for games with that option and a second controller can be purchased for $9.99. According to the company, players with a Classic Controller or Classic Controller Pro can also use those. The new controller will also connect to a Wii Remote, so that you can use it to play Virtual Console games on a Wii or Wii U.

“We wanted to give fans of all ages the opportunity to revisit Nintendo’s original system and rediscover why they fell in love with Nintendo in the first place,” Nintendo of America President and COO Reggie Fils-Aime said in a statement.

“The Nintendo Entertainment System: NES Classic Edition is ideal for anyone who remembers playing the NES, or who wants to pass on those nostalgic memories to the next generation of gamers,” he added.

The NES Classic Edition will launch on November 11 across North America and the UK. However, the UK edition will not launch with its own AC adapter, which is included with the North American edition.
