Two engrossed Pokemon Go players fall off a cliff
The incidents happening while playing Pokemon Go just refuse to stop. The game has been responsible for everything right from a teen stumbling upon a dead body to a string of robberies. Recently, one gamer crashed his car into a tree while he was playing the game and driving at the same time.
Now, this time it involves an incident where two men in their 20s who were playing the augmented reality game between E and F Streets in Encinitas fell off the cliff in North San Diego County.
Police said the men became distracted while trying to catch Pokemon, causing them to fall from the cliff.
According to authorities, Encinitas Fire Department found one of the men 80-90 feet down the cliff, on the beach. The other man, who was unconscious, was located about 50 feet down the cliff.
The gamers had climbed over a marked fence and onto the bluff, which is reportedly marked as unstable. According to the San Diego sheriff’s office, the men were tracking a specific character when they climbed over the fence and eventually tumbled.
Both men were taken to Scripps La Jolla Hospital, though neither were seriously injured.
In order to create an augmented reality, the Pokemon Go app uses GPS and Google Maps. Players travel in the real world to discover and catch Pokemon in real-life locations that double as PokeStops and Gyms in the game.
“I think people just need to realize this is a game,” Sergeant Rich Eaton of the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department told the Los Angeles Times. “It’s not worth your life. No game is worth your life.”
Currently, Pokemon Go has more active daily users than Twitter and Tinder and has been responsible for more Google searches than ‘porn’ in recent days.
