BlackBerry Unveils DTEK60 With 5.5-Inch Display, Android 6.0 Marshmallow

BlackBerry Officially Unveils Its Latest Android Smartphone ‘DTEK60’

BlackBerry announced its latest Android-running smartphone, the DTEK60 on Tuesday. The hardware inside the DTEK60 is manufactured by its new partner TCL, as part of BlackBerry’s reported transition towards focusing on software instead of phones. Blackberry has priced the device cheaper than its competing products like Apple’s iPhone 7 and Android-maker Alphabet Inc’s Pixel.

According to BlackBerry, the phone “provides enterprises and organizations with full access to the Android ecosystem and higher-end specs to help power productivity. It comes equipped with all the security features that BlackBerry’s Android OS devices have, including best-in-class security patching and the DTEK by BlackBerry app that allows users to monitor and control their privacy on their phone.”

The smartphone features a 5.5-inch 1440 x 2560 QHD display with 534 ppi. It’s powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 SoC that is paired with an Adreno 530 GPU. It comes with 4GB of RAM and 32GB of in-built storage, which can be further expanded, thanks to a microSD card slot. It comes with a custom Android UI that features BlackBerry’s customizable gesture controls and the Intelligent Touch keyboard. It will come with the “Convenience Key,” a programmable button on the device for shortcuts. It is launching with Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS out of the box, but an update to Android 7.0 Nougat is said to be in the works.

The back of the device has a 21-megapixel shooter that supports 4K recording, while the front has an 8-megapixel shooter for selfies and video calls. It is powered by a 3,000 mAh battery, which supports Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0. It features a solid metal frame in the middle and glass finish on the back as well as the front. Like many other smartphones in 2016, the BlackBerry flagship comes with a USB-C port as well as a fingerprint scanner on the back.

The BlackBerry DTEK60 is now available for $499 from the company’s website. According to BlackBerry, “customers who order DTEK60 from ShopBlackBerry.com will receive a complimentary accessory bundle. US and Canada customers will receive a DTEK60 Soft Shell and Rapid Charger for free and customers in the UK, France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the Netherlands will receive a DTEK60 Pocket Case and Rapid Charger for free. This offer expires on November 8th at 11:59 pm PST.”
