Xiaomi Announces Mi A3 With Rear Triple Cameras, Android 9 Pie, And In-Screen Fingerprint Scanner
Xiaomi has officially announced the Mi A3, the latest iteration of its affordable Android One smartphone series. The Mi A3 is the third generation of Xiaomi A series and the successor to Mi A2 that was released last year.
“Our Android One series, including Mi A1 and Mi A2, has always been highly successful in terms of immense popularity and exceptional reputation,” said Xiaomi Senior Vice President Wang Xiang. “We believe Mi A3 will continue to exceed our users’ expectations by providing an amazing Android experience at an honest price.”

For the specifications, the Mi A3 features a 6.088-inch AMOLED Dot Drop display panel with a waterdrop notch design and the back panel made of glass. It has a 19.5:9 aspect ratio and a 91% screen-to-body ratio with a resolution of 720×1520 pixels. The Mi A3’s front display and curved back are covered with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 that will protect the phone from falls and scratches.
The Mi A3 is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 processor and has eight Kryo 260 cores (four performance and four efficiency) clocked at 2GHz. It also includes Adreno 610 GPU, 3rd-gen Qualcomm AI Engine, Spectra 165 ISP, and X12 LTE modem. The device comes with 4GB of RAM along with two internal storage options – 64GB and 128GB, which can be expanded via microSD card.
On the camera front, the smartphone features a triple-camera setup on the rear, which includes a primary 48MP f/1.79 Sony IMX582 sensor, along with an 8MP f/2.2 ultra-wide-angle lens secondary sensor, and a 2MP f/2.4 depth sensor for portrait shots. For selfies, there is a 32MP f/2.0 sensor aided by AI on the front.
Connectivity options on the device include a hybrid dual-SIM/microSD card tray, 4G VoLTE, Bluetooth v5.0, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, GPS/ A-GPS, USB Type-C, and a 3.5mm headphone jack among others.
Mi A3 also features an improved in-screen fingerprint sensor with a 15% increased fingerprint detection area for more secure user experience. The smartphone is backed by a huge 4,030mAh battery under the hood and offers up to 18W fast charging via USB Type-C.
Mi A3 is powered by Android One and runs on the latest Android 9 Pie operating system out of the box. Users can enjoy the latest Google innovation and stay productive with the Google Assistant, Digital Wellbeing Dashboard and Wind Down.
The Xiaomi Mi A3 smartphone will be available in three color variants: “Not Just Blue”, “More Than White”, and “Kind of Gray”.
Xiaomi Mi A3 is currently releasing only in Spain with the 4GB+64GB model to be available for €249 from July 24 on mi.com, Mi Stores, Carrefour, El Corte Ingles, MediaMarkt, Movistar and Worten. It will reach Alcampo, Amazon, and FNAC in the upcoming weeks. Further, the 4GB+128GB model of Mi A3 will be available for pre-order for €279 from mi.com and Mi Stores on the same day. However, the launch date of this model is yet not known.
