You Can Now Play Games During Messenger Video Calls

Facebook Gaming, a division of Meta, this week announced a new feature ‘Play together’ for its Messenger app that allows you to play a selection of games with your friends and family during video calls.

“Facebook Gaming is excited to announce that you can now play your favorite games during video calls on Messenger,” the company wrote in a blog post.

“This new, shared experience in Messenger makes it easy to play games with friends and family while in a video call, allowing you to deepen connections with friends and family by engaging in conversations and gameplay at the same time.”

To access the games, the user needs to start a video call on Messenger and tap the group mode button in the center. After that, they need to tap or click on the “Play” icon and browse through the games library.

Currently, there are 14 free-to-play games available in Messenger video calls on iOS, Android, and Web on messenger.com. These games do not require any installation.

The games library includes a mix of brand-new titles, like Card Wars by Bombay Play and Exploding Kittens by Coatsink as well as some fan favorites like Mini Golf FRVR by FRVR and Words With Friends by Zynga. Although each game supports a different number of players, the company notes that there must be at least two or more people in your call to play games.

Facebook Gaming also points out that the new feature is best experienced on a Chrome web browser.

Additionally, the company said it is working to bring more free games to the platform this year. Facebook Gaming also added that developers who are interested in integrating this feature into their games can contact their Partner Manager for more information.
