Samsung Galaxy Ring To Offer Up To Nine Days Of Battery Life

In January 2024, Samsung Electronics officially announced the Galaxy Ring, a ring-shaped wearable device, at its official Galaxy Unpacked event teaser. While the company did share the first images of the product, it did not reveal many details of the product back then.

However, the South Korean tech giant went on to show off the Galaxy Ring at the recently concluded Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2024 in Barcelona, Spain and also revealed information about the design and release date of the wellness device.

Features And Specifications Of The Galaxy Ring

Samsung Electronics’ smart ring, ‘Galaxy Ring’ is a new health tracker that can be worn on your finger, which can help you track your sleep using four different metrics: heart rate, respiratory rate, night movement and sleep latency. It will also work for monthly cycle tracking.

Further, Galaxy Ring will feature new features such as ‘My Vitality Score’, which will provide users with a physical and mental readiness score based on various data such as sleep and heart rate through Samsung Health. It will also come with a ‘Booster Card’ that encourages users to set health goals.

In addition, the Galaxy Ring will bring advanced sleep tracking, which will provide sleep metrics based on the user’s heart rate, respiratory rate, and movements made when sleeping.

The wearable device will come in nine different sizes, numbered from 5 to 13. In particular, this will be as light as a regular ring and could weigh anything between 2.3 grams to 2.9 grams.

Further, the smallest Galaxy Ring will be equipped with a 14.5 mAh battery, while the biggest model will feature a 21.5 mAh battery. This means the device can expect to deliver a battery life lasting anywhere between 5 to 9 days on a single charge, depending on the usage.

Regarding the design of the Galaxy Ring in the form of a ring worn on the finger, Dr Hon Pak, Samsung’s Vice President and Head of Samsung’s Digital Health team, said, We chose the finger because it is very simple to collect information from the wrist because many blood vessels and veins pass through the finger.”

Coming to compatibility with the Galaxy Ring, the wearable device will only work with Galaxy phones and other Android phones. However, the company is “working on ensuring” support for other devices. On the other hand, iPhone users apparently won’t be able to use the Galaxy Ring at all.

However, the company is hoping iPhone users will consider switching to a Galaxy phone due to Galaxy Ring’s appeal. “We ultimately hope that our devices are of such caliber that people will be willing to switch,” Pak said.

“Currently, the Galaxy Ring is attracting a lot of attention because it is a new form factor, and this is what we are aiming for. The vision is to implement this healthcare within a broad ecosystem, and it will not end with the Galaxy Ring. There will be a wide variety of things in the future,” he added.

“By launching the Galaxy Ring, which can be comfortably worn 24 hours a day, within the year, we aim to provide comprehensive health insights based on conveniently monitored data in daily life.”

The Galaxy Ring will be available in three color options: Black, Silver, and Gold. The wearable device is expected to be released in the second half of the year.
