Popular crowd-funding website Kickstarter hacked, user data stolen

The popular crowd-funding website Kickstarter was hacked last wednesday. the Company was alerted by the law enforcement agencies that hackers have gained access to some of the customers data.

Though no credit card details have been stolen. Kickstarter said hackers managed to steal “some information about our customers. Accessed information included usernames, email addresses, mailing addresses, phone numbers, and encrypted passwords.”

Actual passwords were not stolen since it was in encrypted form. though there are chances that someone with enough computing power can guess or crack an encrypted password. 
Kickstarter have urged their users to change their kickstarter account passwords, and other account passwords too incase the same password is used else where.

Company said it have strengthen their systems, and is taking more safety measures after it was informed about the hack,

We have since improved our security procedures and systems in numerous ways, and we will continue to do so in the weeks and months to come. We are working closely with law enforcement, and we are doing everything in our power to prevent this from happening again.

KickStarter is a popular crowd-funding platform and Since its launch, more than 5 million people have funded more than 50,000 creative projects.
