OpenAI’s Guide To ChatGPT Model Selection

OpenAI has quietly released an updated overview of the capabilities and usage limits of its ChatGPT Enterprise models, offering businesses clear guidance on which AI (artificial intelligence) tools are best suited for their tasks.

The article titled “ChatGPT Enterprise – Models & Limits” published on May 3, 2025, aims to help organizations better understand the differences between OpenAI’s various ChatGPT models.

What is ChatGPT Enterprise?

ChatGPT Enterprise is OpenAI’s premium subscription plan designed for professional and corporate users. It offers enterprise-grade security and privacy, unlimited high-speed access to cutting-edge models like GPT-4o, OpenAI o3 reasoning models, and a suite of powerful native tools.

These include native tools like deep research, data analysis, file uploads, canvas, projects, search, advanced voice, image generation, customization options, and much more.

When To Use Each Model?

ChatGPT offers five models under the Enterprise plan, each with distinct strengths:

  • GPT-4o: The new “omni model” excels at everyday tasks such as brainstorming, summarizing, writing emails, and creating content. As a fully multimodal model, it supports almost all capabilities (GPTs, data analysis, search, image generation, canvas, advanced voice) and inputs (documents, images, CSV files, audio, and video).
  • GPT-4.5: Ideal for creative tasks, which include emotional intelligence, clear communication, creativity, and a more collaborative, intuitive approach to brainstorming. For instance, tasks such as writing product descriptions, LinkedIn posts, and a customer apology letter with an empathetic tone.
  • OpenAI o4-mini: Optimized for speed, this model handles quick STEM-related queries, programming, and technical tasks such as coding, math, and visual reasoning with high efficiency.
  • OpenAI o4-mini-high: A deeper version of o4-mini for more comprehensive responses to advanced coding, math, and scientific explanations.
  • OpenAI o3: Designed for complex, multi-step tasks, including strategic planning, detailed analyses, extensive coding, advanced math, science, coding, and visual reasoning.

Enterprise Limits And Capabilities

Each model comes with its own usage quota and capabilities:

GPT-4o offers unlimited access and supports all major tools and inputs, including CSVs, audio, and video.

GPT-4.5 is limited to 20 requests per week, maintaining a strong focus on communication and tone control—ideal for writing, coding, and quick problem-solving.

o4-mini provides 300 requests per day, making it ideal for tasks involving coding, maths, and visual analysis.

o4-mini-high builds on o4-mini and provides 100 requests per day, offering greater depth for more thorough technical answers.

o3 is capped at 100 requests per week, designed for handling complex, multi-step analysis with advanced reasoning capabilities.

GPT Models For Regular Users

Of the models listed above, OpenAI offers o4-mini, o4-mini-high, and o3 to regular ChatGPT users, each tailored to different levels of complexity and performance needs as mentioned above. Regular users can select between these models only if they pay $20 for ChatGPT Plus.

As more and more organizations look to adopt AI in their daily operations, OpenAI’s latest guide provides a much-needed roadmap to companies looking to integrate ChatGPT Enterprise by helping them match the task to the right model and unlock AI’s full potential.
