Hacker Sentenced For Emailing Bomb Threat To Shopping Mall

Hacker sentenced for 18 months in prison for emailing Bomb Threat to shopping mall using the hacked WI-FI connection of his neighbor

24 Year old David Barnhouse of Horsham Pennsylvania was sentenced to 18 months in prison for hacking into his neighbor’s wireless router and using it to post a bomb threat on the website of the Willow Grove Park Mall.

The United States Attorney’s official release stated that Barnhouse hacked into the Verizon FiOS router of his neighbor and using it he emailed a bomb threat to the Willow Grove Park Mall..  The email message is given below : 

“We have planted an explosive device somewhere in the mall, and will detonate it unless all members of the Islamic faith imprisoned in the United States are freed by 7pm on June 23. Even if you search the mall for 72 consecutive hours, you will NEVER find it.”, the email read.

Taking the threat seriously Mall owners paid for increased security and FBI was called in to look into the matter, The FBI tracked the email coming from the accused’s neighbor’s router and executed a search warrant on the neighbor’s house.

During investigations, it was found that Barnhouse was responsible for all this and was sentenced to 18 months in prison followed by three years of supervised release and restitution to the mall for the costs of the increased security.
