Verizon misses the Android 5.1 Lollipop update deadline for Motorola DROID Turbo, instead comes up with a simulator tool to give taste of what Lollipop will bring to DROID Turbo
Motorola DROID Turbo users are a harried lot because they are yet to receive the much awaited Android 5.1 Lollipop firmware update for their smartphones. After almost three months wait since the first announcement, the Lollipop update for the Droid Turbo seems still another two to three weeks away but Verizon is giving is customers a preview of what Android 5.1 Lollipop will bring to the table.
Verizon is hosting the Android 5.1 Lollipop simulator here and No, you can’t actually download the pre-release build of Android 5.1 and install it on your DROID Turbo.
However you can visit the simulator website and “get to know” the features Android 5.1 Lollipop will be bringing to DROID Turbo using an interactive guide that walks you through things like downloading apps and adding widgets to your home screen, using Google Now and Google Maps, and browsing the web in Google Chrome.
Verizon said that it has update the simulator tool to Android 5.1. on 11th June to provide its users first hand experience about Android 5.1 Lollipop before the software actually makes its public debut, allowing users take a sneak peek at how it’s going to change and improve the DROID Turbo.
As for the actual update, “things are looking good,” said Motorola’s senior director of software product management, David Schuster, on Google+ last week. “We have not provided a launch date yet, but I will let you know as soon as the update is available.”
Earlier, Verizon had promised DROID Turbo users a Android 5.1 Lollipop update by mid-June but that promise seems far way off. Apparently the Verizon engineers hit a snag during the testing of Android 5.1.
