OnePlus 2: The World’s First Product To Be Launched on VR on July 27

OnePlus to launch its next device OnePlus 2 on July 27 in a virtual reality event

OnePlus has been quite groundbreaking in the tech startup and mobile devices market. After a successful launch of the OnePlus One flagship device and a limited agreement with Cyanogen, the Chinese smartphone maker will launch its next phone, the OnePlus 2, on July 27.

The company in the past had disclosed that its forthcoming device will have a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 version 2.1 chip set under the hood,  carry a USB-C port, and it will run OxygenOS, which is OnePlus’ own version of Android.

The company has announced today that it will launch the OnePlus 2 with a VR (Virtual Reality) experience that fans will be able to check out using their phones with a cardboard viewer.

Carl Pei, OnePlus Forum founder in a post said,

“We’re excited for the future. As a tech startup, our goal is to push the envelope, look for new opportunities, and strive to perfect them. Virtual reality holds a monumental amount of potential. With cutting-edge technology, we can explore corners of the world like never before. We already know that VR will change the face of the entertainment industry, but we’re here to try something new.”

The post adds,

“A VR launch lets you stand right next to our team and our fans as we unveil our new flagship. You’ll be able to look around as you check out the phone in a new way and maybe even find a few hidden Easter eggs. It’s a new way of thinking about a product launch. We aren’t talking at you; we are talking with you.”

Talking on the VR launch of the OnePlus 2, Pei said,

“When we thought about doing this launch in VR, we wanted to make sure the viewing experience was simple and straightforward. We love the existing cardboard VR headsets, but we saw some room for improvement, and decided to design our own custom headsets. We spent a lot of time at the drawing board tweaking them until they were perfect. Our version is tailored perfectly to the One, as well as fast and easy to assemble. We didn’t cut any corners on production, and we’re definitely losing money on this. But, we want to share them with everyone. For an even closer look, be sure to check out our OnePlus Cardboard page.”

According to OnePlus, it has developed a refined cardboard headset that will be able to withstand wear, pressure and damage and resistant to dust and oils. One can get its own once it’s available by paying only for shipping.

As with the OnePlus One in its early days, you’ll need an invite to purchase the OnePlus 2.

Recently, the OnePlus One was made available to the public at just $299 for the high-end 64GB version and is now available in many more markets than at the time of launch

The product launch of OnePlus 2 is scheduled to start at 7pm PT (7:30am IST) in a virtual reality event on July 27 and will be live streamed around the world. It will be interesting to see how this device handles the competition once it is launched in the market.
