Mr. Robot Intentionally Leaks Season 2 Premiere In A Smart Marketing Trick

Creators of ‘Mr. Robot’ season 2 deliberately leak the premiere

In a surprise leak that hit the internet over the weekend, the show creatorsโ€™ of โ€œMr. Robot Season 2โ€ leaked its premiere on various social media platforms just days before its scheduled premiere. The full episode appeared online after a masked figure interrupted a live Facebook Q&A with the creators.

In the middle of a “Mr. Robot” interview that included Rami Malek, Christian Slater, Portia Doubleday and Carly Chaikin, moderated by comedian Keegan?Michael Key, Mr. Robot’s fictional hacker organization, FSociety broke into fake the canned promotion.

Mr. Robot, a show about a group of hackers working to take down an evil multinational in New York City, will have its full premiere on July 13, but fans got a very pleasant surprise last night when the network tweeted that they could get an early glimpse of the show at precisely 8:30 p.m. ET directly through the social media network. The network then announced that those who missed the show on Twitter could catch it at 8:45 p.m. on Snapchat and 9:00 on YouTube. The episode was also streaming directly on USAโ€™s website.

USA Networks wasn’t set to air the Season 2 premiere of the Golden Globe- and Peabody Award-winning hacker series for another three days, before the 43-minute episode popped up during the Facebook Live Q&A.

The teaser went down almost as soon as it went up. It reappeared Sunday night on Twitter. However, the tweets and posts containing the video have since been deleted.

“Tonight was just the beginning,” the nefarious hacking organization tweeted.

NBC Universal’s marketing team disclosed that the episode will also make phantom appearances on Snapchat, YouTube and USA’s website before Wednesday night’s broadcast debut.

The “Mr. Robot” PR stunt promises fun things are in store for the sophomore season of the show. The American drama-thriller centers on Elliot Alderson, a cybersecurity engineer and hacker. He suffers from social anxiety disorder and clinical depression.

Alderson is later recruited by the titular character who is an insurrectionary anarchist. He joins a group of hacktivists and attacks a large corporation, E Corp, in order to cancel debts.

The 12 episode long Mr. Robot Season 2 premieres on July 13, 2016 on the USA Network.
