Global video streaming giant Netflix is planning to start two-days-for-free promotion called “StreamFest”, which will allow everyone in a given country to access the service for free for a weekend.
The company is looking at “StreamFest” as a way to attract more subscribers who haven’t yet subscribed to a Netflix streaming plan. This promotional offer will give users access to the entire catalogue of movies and TV shows available in their region on any device and with no limit on the content that they want to watch.
Netflix is planning to test the free 48-hour trial promo in India starting December 4, as reported first by Protocol. Depending on the response in India, the company may expand the offer to other countries in the future.
Previously, to get the 30-day free trial, users had to put in their payment details after which Netflix would deduct the monthly charge by default after completing one month. Nevertheless, the users have an option to cancel the free trial offer. However, this is not the case with the new 2-day promotional offer.
“We think that giving everyone in a country access to Netflix for free for a weekend could be a great way to expose a bunch of new people to the amazing stories that we have. Really creating an event, and hopefully get a bunch of those folks to sign up,” said Greg Peters, Chief Product Officer at Netflix.
Recently, Netflix pulled off the 30-day trial free trial periods in many countries, which it provided to new customers.
“Free trials are not available, but you can still sign up and take advantage of all Netflix has to offer,” Netflix states on its Help Centre Page. “There are no contracts, no cancellation fees, and no commitments. You have the freedom to change your plan or cancel online at any time if you decide Netflix isn’t for you. As a Netflix member, all our plans give you access to our full catalog of TV shows and movies. Choose a plan that works for you and sign up for Netflix!”
