Tech giant Apple is reportedly making strides toward developing its much-anticipated smart glasses, aiming to expand its augmented reality (AR) product line-up beyond the Vision Pro headset.
According to the latest edition ofย Mark Gurmanโs Power On newsletter, the product, internally codenamed N50, aims to transform everyday glasses into Apple Intelligence devices.
Instead of offering a full AR experience like the company’s Vision Pro headset, the glasses are designed to analyze the userโs surroundings and discreetly feed relevant information back to the wearer.
Even though the product could stop well short of full-blown AR, it still promises to add useful digital details to everyday life.
Late to the Party
Despite Apple’s technical prowess, the company has been surprisingly late to offer a competitor to the currently popular Meta smart glasses (in collaboration with Ray-Ban), which have seen strong consumer adoption.
Given Appleโs reputation for swiftly capitalizing on new technology opportunities, the slow pace of the tech giant has left industry experts puzzled.
It appears that the Cupertino giant is taking a careful, deliberate approach towards its N50 project, aiming to deliver a polished, seamless product rather than rushing into a competitive space.
Although the product remains far from market-ready, the N50 glasses mark a significant step in defining Apple’s next generation of wearable intelligence devices.
