Google’s Gemini App Rolls Out Scheduled Actions

Google is raising the bar for AI (artificial intelligence) productivity tools with a powerful new feature in the Gemini app: scheduled actions.

Announced earlier at Google I/O and now officially rolling out for Android and iOS users, this update allows Gemini to automate recurring tasks like reminders, summaries, and creative prompts—all without users having to repeat commands, making it a more personal, powerful, and everyday AI assistant.

“As we shared at I/O, the Gemini app is getting more personal, proactive and powerful. Starting today, we’re rolling out scheduled actions in the Gemini app, a new feature designed to proactively handle your tasks,” Google announced in a blog post on Sunday.

Your Personal Assistant, On Autopilot

With scheduled actions, Gemini can handle everything from daily meeting summaries to weekly writing ideas automatically, right on time as per your schedule. For example:

  • “Send me a summary of today’s meeting every morning at 8 AM.”
  • “Send me five blog ideas every Monday.”
  • “Give me updates on my favorite team every weekend.”

You can create one-time or recurring actions with simple voice or text prompts. Once set, Gemini quietly takes care of the task, even if you forget to ask.

Similarly, it is also easy to manage your scheduled tasks. The Gemini app includes a dedicated “Scheduled Actions” page in the settings where you can view, modify, or cancel any existing tasks.

Going Head-to-Head With ChatGPT

With this update, Gemini is stepping directly into ChatGPT’s territory, especially in the area of task automation and custom workflows—something ChatGPT users often achieve through third-party tools like Zapier. While ChatGPT imposes a 10-task limit, Google hasn’t yet revealed if Gemini will have similar limits.

What sets Gemini apart is its built-in integration with Google apps, allowing users to set up and manage tasks without needing any external services, offering a more seamless and streamlined experience.

This native approach not only simplifies the process but also delivers a more unified and hassle-free experience for users already embedded in the ecosystem.

Availability

Scheduled actions are now available for users with a Google AI Pro or Ultra subscription, as well as for qualifying Google Workspace business and education plans.

As AI technology continues to advance, Gemini’s newest features may play a key role in shaping how we approach productivity. And with Google’s push into smarter, more personalized AI, it is clear that we are only beginning to see the full potential of what Gemini can offer.
