In a major step forward for artificial intelligence (AI), Microsoft on Thursday announced the integration of OpenAI’s most advanced language model, GPT-5, across its entire suite of AI tools and platforms.
This rollout spans Microsoft 365 Copilot, Microsoft Copilot, GitHub Copilot, Visual Studio Code, and Azure AI Foundry, marking a significant leap forward in Microsoft’s commitment to making advanced AI tools more accessible and effective for everyone — from everyday users to enterprise customers.
Trained on Microsoft Azure, GPT-5 now powers the AI experiences behind Microsoft’s tools — delivering smarter, faster, and more reliable support. It is optimized to address a wide spectrum of use cases across productivity, software development, and customer solutions.
“Today Microsoft is incorporating GPT-5, OpenAI’s best AI system to date, into a wide variety of its products, to bring new reasoning capabilities and improvements to coding and chat across its platforms,” Microsoft wrote in a news release on Thursday.
GPT-5, which was trained on Azure, includes OpenAI’s latest reasoning models, along with a smart, efficient model, to provide users with the right tool for the task at hand, whether in a consumer, enterprise or developer context.”
Smarter AI for Business and Enterprise
With GPT-5, Microsoft 365 Copilot can now better understand complex prompts, maintain conversational context over longer sessions, and reason across emails, documents, and files. more effectively.

Additionally, GPT-5 is now available within Microsoft Copilot Studio, enabling organizations to design and deploy custom agents for sophisticated business processes with ease and without compromising on performance or accuracy.
GitHub Copilot And Visual Studio Code
For developers, the upgrade is equally exciting. All paid GitHub Copilot plans now feature GPT-5, allowing them to write, test, and deploy more complex code directly in GitHub Chat, Visual Studio Code, or even GitHub Mobile through the model picker.
Azure AI Foundry
Azure AI Foundry provides developers with access to all GPT-5 variants, backed by enterprise-grade security, compliance, and governance tools. Depending on performance needs, developers can mix and match GPT-5 variants, and Azure’s built-in model router dynamically chooses the most efficient model for each task based on complexity, performance requirements, and cost-efficiency.

Before rolling it out, Microsoft’s AI Red Team conducted extensive internal testing of GPT-5 against a variety of threats — from scam automation to malware generation — using its industry-standard evaluation protocols.
