What is #OpSoaringEagle?

Many are tweeting with this question. ย The answer is that this a all new campaign by the hackers collective Anonymous to avenge against a police constable Joel Demore who took part in a investigation leading to arrest and indictment of a teenager in Ottawa.

The 16 year old teenager was charged with 60 criminal charges after he allegedly used his Twitter account to solicit requests on where to call in fake emergencies, in a practice known as “swatting.” The police have charged him with calling 30 emergency helplines with this method and sometimes involving SWAT teams in a wild goose chase. ย PC Joel Demore was allegedly involved in the investigations which led to the arrest of the 16 year old teenager who cant be named underย the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act of Canada.

The first strike of the Anonymous under this operation happened to be the City of Ottawa website. ย The hacked site was online for an hour, from about 6:30 p.m. ET to about 7:30 p.m. It showed a dancing banana and named Const. Joel Demore of Ottawa police west district investigations. “Joel Demore: You laugh at us, you are scared of us, does this help your laughing?” the hacked website read. “We can destroy everything, this is a flex of our power. Please, test us. You know what we want.”

The email address of Jeol Demore was also mentioned on the defaced page. However by 7:30 p.m the administrators of the website seem to gain part control of the website and put up a blue screen with the words “This Account Has Been Suspended.” There are chances that the website is still hacked and the host may have been contacted to remove the defacement message.

Meanwhile a paste has sprung on popular pasting site, Pastebin. ย The paste which has been posted by a guest allegedly speaks on behalf of the Anonymous hackers collective. The paste is reproduced below :

Greetings World,
We are Anonymous.

Two weeks ago today, we launched operation Soaring Eagle. #opSoaringEagle. This operation was kept hidden, while we gathered information. We breaching secure systems, and networks. Our target was the Ottawa Police (in Canada).

We hacked into court systems, heard the police talking about how they are scared of us, that they would never plug in anything to a computer we sent them. That is fine, we have other ways to access your network. We left a digital footprint inside your internal systems, find it. We are not going to be stopping, it is time for change. As for Officer Joel Demore (Detective on the Ottawa Police Services) – you have been sending out nasty things, like “ip addresses can’t be faked” and “im soo gay” and “i love porn” among other nasty items. This is just a proof of concept, let it be known, we own you.

For every one technical expect you think you have, we have 20.. 50.. 100.. Do you believe us now? Are we serious enough? This is just the start, Operation Soaring Eagle will continue, until we see fit that it is completed. We will be taking over all ottawa police networks, shutdown communications on the internet, hijack domains, servers, and soo much more. It all starts today.

We are Anonymous.
We are Legion.
We do not Forgive.
We do not Forget.
You should has expected us.

In a separate incident the 16 year old teenagers father said that the Anonymous hackers collective may have evidence to prove his son was innocent. His father told reporters on the Hill Nov. 12 that his son is being framed for the incidents and that he and his son are victims of harassment.

“I was at my wit’s end, and then I got an email, and the email was from Anonymous, the hacker group,” the boy’s father told reporters. “And it says โ€ฆ here’s the evidence to free your son. “And โ€ฆ the people helping me have guaranteed me that more evidence is coming.”

The Ottawa police said Friday evening that they’re investigating into the hacking of the website of the city. Techworm is trying to get Anonymous view on #OpSoaringEagle and will keep you updated.
