Xiaomi Redmi 2 to be launched in India on Thursday and may be priced sub Rs.6000.00

Xioami’s Redmi 2 to be available in India on 12th March and at a price of sub Rs.6000.00

Xiaomi, the Chinese handset maker, is launching its latest smartphone Redmi 2 on March 12 in India. To promote the product, Xiaomi is running a new contest on social media and its website, the winners of which will be given priority passes for Redmi 2

“Something is coming for sure and here’s your chance to score a priority pass,” says a post on Xiaomi’s India Facebook page.

The Xiaomi Redmi 2 is expected to take the spot of budget Redmi 1S and come in a Rs.6000.00 range as Xiaomi Redmi 2 currently retails in China at CNY 699 (roughly Rs. 7,100).

On the insides

Xiaomi Redmi 2 will be a dual-SIM dual-standby capable smartphone and sport a 4.7-inch IPS display with HD  at 720×1280 ppi resolution and pixel density of 312ppi. Redmi 2 will have Xiaomi’s own and very popular MIUI 6 skin and will be based on Android 4.4 KitKat.

It will be powered by a 64-bit 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor (Cortex-A53) coupled with 2GB of RAM and Adreno 306 GPU. Redmi 2 will have a 8MP rear shooter and a 2MP front camera.

For storage, it will come with 16GB of internal memory which can be expanded upto 32GB via the MicroSD expansion slot. It will have a 2200 mAh battery to run all the Apps and features.

Xiaomi hopes to carry forward the success it had with Redmi 1 in India with this budget size and nicely speced smartphone.
