YIFY Torrents moves to YTS.TO domain after it faces domain suspension

YIFY Torrents faces domain suspension from French authorities, moves to YTS.TO domain

World’s second most popular torrent website has switched its domain after it ran foul with copyright advocacy groups.

YIFY which is a popular movie release torrent group has decided to move to Tonga domain and can be reached only at YTS.TO from 1st April.

The move came after French domain registry FRNIC informed the YIFY admin that YTS.re will be suspended by the end of the month, most probably due to pressure from copyright holders.

YIFY has gained tremendous popularity in 2014. Also its “Pirate Netflix” app Popcorn Time is pretty famous and uses the YTS API. The rising popularity seems to be one of the reasons for the suspension of the domain by French authorities. It has been on the radar of various copyright advocacy groups and even U.S. Government has labeled it a pirate website.

Unlike sudden takedowns, the French authorities gave a one month warning to YIFY admin and that has helped them to make the transition to .To smoothly.

“It was very nice of FRNIC to give us more than a week prep time. I see too many cases were the registrar closes an account without warning,” the YTS admin says.

YIFY has requested all its API users including Popcorn Time ones to update their APIs and point them at new domain name and also informed that the .RE domain wont be available from 1st April.
