‘Xiaomi Mi 4i Releases OTA Update to Fix Overheating Issues’
Xiaomi has released an OTA (over-the-air) update for Mi 4i users world over including India this week. The system update V188.8.131.52 has been issued to fix the overheating issues and some security bugs.
Xiaomi India initially started rolling out the OTA update (V184.108.40.206 LXI) to the Xiaomi Mi 4i late last week which was cancelled midway after many users faced new issues after updating to the latest system update.
The update was announced by Hugo Barra, Xiaomi’s Vice President of International Operations on Facebook, “Today we began an over-the-air system update of MIUI v220.127.116.11 for Mi 4i users. This is our first major update for the Mi 4i since its launch last month, incorporating feedback from many early Mi 4i users with a number of bug fixes and optimizations.”
Users had complained that the Xiaomi Mi 4i overheated when users played hi-definition and complex 3D games. Barra said that to fix this issue Xiaomi has optimised its thermal control algorithms to better regulate the temperature. He also added in the post that the new thermal controls will adjust frequency, voltage and the number of cores in use depending on the chipset temperature.
According to Barra the update was tested internally by beta testers and found that it had helped in reducing overall Mi 4i temperature without affecting the smartphone performance.
Xiaomi Mi 4i users all over the world would receive this update within this weekend. To check whether your Xiaomi Mi 4i has received to OTA update, head over to settings > check for updates and download the update. Remember to use only Wi-Fi for updating your smartphone.
Barra stated that a previous OTA update v18.104.22.168 was halted a few days back as a small number of users reported a minor issue related to the power button. This issue was fixed and only then, was it resumed for everyone by Xiaomi.
