Android 5.0 Lollipop Update being rolled out for Asus Zenfone 4, Zenfone 5 and Zenfone 6
Asus has finally started rolling out the Android 5.0 Lollipop update bringing good news for Zenfone 4, Zenfone 5, and Zenfone 6 users. The Android 5.0 Lollipop update to the Zenfone 4, 5 and 6 series smartphones has started rolling out OTA (Over-The-Air). The users can also download the update via the official Asus ZenTalk forum.
The news comes as a pleasant surprise to many Asus Zenfone device owners, as the Android 5.0 Lollipop update for the first-generation Asus Zenfone 5 smartphones was delayed last month due to verification issues.
After the Android 5.0 Lollipop update, the company has listed some changes on Asus Zenfone 4 (A400CG and A400CXG), Zenfone 5 (A500CG and A501CG), and Zenfone 6 (A600CG and A601CG) that consists of removal of some pre-installed apps such as PhotoFrame Widget, Battery Widget, Cloud Print, Movie Studio, CMClient, and Magic Smoke Wallpapers.
The Android Lollipop update comes with new lockscreen along with weather information and removed standalone wallpaper (1GB RAM variant only); a change to the quick settings/recent app layouts (1G RAM variant only); removal of cover and in-call animation; new and improved form of Contacts and Dialer; inclusion of My Ocean wallpaper, Asus Auto-start Service Manager app, Day Scene Live Wallpaper, TripAdvisor and auto-start service manager, as well as improved music function and VOIP phone call function.
Until now, the Android 5.0 Lollipop update has been provided only to the users of the LTE-variant of the Zenfone 5. In a Facebook post, where Asus India claimed late last month revealed 3-4 months delay in Android 5.0 Lollipop update for the Zenfone 5. Hence, the current rollout contradicts the company’s statement.
How to install Android 5.0 Lollipop on Zenfone 4, Zenfone 5 and Zenfone 6 via OTA:
If Asus Zenfone series device owners are getting the update notifications on their Zenfone 4, Zenfone 5 and Zenfone 6, then follow these simple steps to install Android 5.0 Lollipop via OTA.
First, select “Yes, Download” option >> then, after downloading, select >> “Install now.” The phone will restart automatically and the OS will be updated to the new version.
However, one should remember that the roll-out process is carried out in phases, hence, it may take some time to reach all parts of the world.
Until then, users can check for OTA update manually by going to – ‘Settings’ >> ‘About phone’ >> ‘System update’ >> ‘Check Now’
The company has stated in its release notes that the some apps will get uninstalled and the new apps will get added along with Lollipop goodies like the new “Material Design” language, along with interactive user interface, lock-screen notification options, lots of animation graphics, and the replacement of Dalvik with ART as its default runtime will enhance battery-life and bring improvement in performance and many more features.
Do remember to update your Asus Zenfone only via Wi-Fi as the update file is pretty huge.
