OnePlus 2 Smartphone To Be Priced Under $450 Says OnePlus CEO

The pricing of the forthcoming OnePlus 2 smartphone as per OnePlus’ latest teaser on social platforms affirms that the price of the phone will be under $450 (approximately Rs. 28,500).

“We’ve seen price estimates for the #OnePlus2 upwards of $500,” said OnePlus on Twitter. An image of the company’s CEO, Pete Lau accompanied the tweet saying, “I can promise that the OnePlus 2 will be priced under $450.”

This is the first time the company has especially come out with an approximate pricing of its OnePlus 2 smartphone. On two instances, in the past, the Chinese company had given inside information regarding the prices of the OnePlus 2.

On one occasion, it had stated that the price of OnePlus 2 would be around CNY 1,999 or higher than $322 (roughly Rs. 20,500). While the second time, Liu Zuohu (aka Pete Lau) CEO of OnePlus had indirectly indicated that the price of the OnePlus 2 price as CNY 2,499 of $400 (roughly Rs. 25,000).

The pricing of its new OnePlus 2 smartphone was further emphasized by the company in a Google+ post and followed up on its teaser adding, “Honestly, it’s never been about the price. We simply make the best smartphones we can, and we go from there.” For the specifications it packed in at a very competitive pricing, OnePlus One was dubbed ‘2014 flagship killer’, one can expect its successor to do the same thing again this year.

The company has already disclosed that it would be launching its second flagship smartphone, the OnePlus 2 in a virtual reality event on July 27. On the specs front, the Chinese handset manufacturer has confirmed that the OnePlus 2 would feature Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 v2.1 SoC, USB Type-C port, and will sport a fingerprint sensor claiming it to be faster than Apple’s iPhone Touch ID sensor.

To go back, in April last year, OnePlus launched the OnePlus One smartphone which came at a starting price of $299 (unlocked and without contract) for the 16GB model (roughly Rs. 18,300), while the 64GB variant was available at $349 (roughly Rs. 21,350).

However, the company last month gave the OnePlus One smartphone a permanent price cut in the US and eligible European countries. The 16GB Silk White OnePlus One was priced at $249 (roughly Rs. 16,000) after the price cut in the US, and EUR 249 (roughly Rs. 17,400) in eligible European countries. On the other hand, the 64GB Sandstone Black OnePlus One was reduced to $299 (roughly Rs. 19,000) in the US, and EUR 299 (roughly Rs. 20,800) in Europe.
