Amazon decides to make a movie onย KKK led by Joseph Gordon-Levitt
Amazon has been slowly moving from TV shows to full length movies. In fact it plans to release as many as 12 films a year. However the topic for its next movie is bound to generate a lot of controversy as it plans to make a movie on the infamous racist white supremacy group, Ku Klux Klan.
The film is said to beย set in the post-Civil War period and will focus on the rise of the controversialย KKK during that period.ย The Hollywood Reporter reports thatย Amazon has signed Inception and Looper actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt, who will potentially produce and star in the KKK movie.
The film is period drama titled K Troopย and tells the story of the elite US Army group tasked with eliminating the white supremacist group in the 1870s. Hollywood Reporter notes that Levitt will play Major Lewis Merrill, the leader of the division, who built “a sprawling network of informants, including a number of local African-Americans, who risked their lives to piece together the secretive workings of the KKK.”
However noble may be Amazon’s intentions in making this movie, K Troop is bound to generate some controversy. Ku Klux Klan has already been at loggerheads with the online hacktivist group, Anonymous. It also made headlines following remarks from presidential candidate Donald Trump. ?
Maybe Amazon’s decision to make a movie is purely commercial and comes on the back of polarisation happening in United States in the runup to the presidential elections.
