This Lumia 520 Is Running Android Nougat 7.1 [Video]

This Developer Gets Android 7.1 Nougat Running On A Nokia Lumia 520

A video uploaded on YouTube shows that Nokia Lumia 520, the discontinued Windows Phone 8 smartphone is capable of running the CyanogenMod 14.1 custom ROM, which is based on Android Nougat 7.1. Sounds surprising right? Launched in 2013, this largely forgotten smartphone was updated to Windows Phone 8.1 a year after it launched, but it never got updated to Microsoft’s latest Windows 10 OS.

Now, a cunning developer has brought the Nokia Lumia 520 back to life by getting the latest version of Android Nougat 7.1 run on it. The person behind this experiment is Nguyen Thinh who published details of his efforts on the XDA Developers forums, where he noted that the touchscreen, brightness levels, battery management, storage management, charging, sound and other features are all working well with his installation of the Nougat ROM. He explicitly used a Resurrection Remix 5.8.0 ROM based on Android 7.1. He also mentions that the update is very smooth on the smartphone, and has also managed to run multiple apps on it. However, the Lumia 520 is seen faltering while performing multitasking.

The same developer also confirmed Android Nougat 7.1 can run on the Nokia Lumia 525, which includes 1GB of RAM, confirming similar functionality and a smoother Nougat user experience due to its high RAM capacity.

It should be noted that this Android build is not stable enough to be a daily driver, but nonetheless, it is interesting to see the latest Android Nougat 7.1 running on the Nokia Lumia 520, which is an accomplishment in itself.
