Telegram is one of the most feature-packed messaging applications out there. It’s used by over 500 million users and outperforms most mainstream messaging services like WhatsApp, WeChat, Discord, and many others.
Sadly, Telegram doesn’t have many revenue streams. Last year relying on ad sales and adding extra features for massive group channels, Telegram tried to monetize the messaging service.
Well, Telegram is now taking this a step further by introducing a premium subscription service. Do note that the premium subscription service is still in beta and presently available only for iOS devices.
With the premium service, users will get access to exclusive reactions and stickers. As you might have guessed, reactions to the premium service from users were mostly negative.
As of now, there’s no official information available about the pricing of the subscription service. Luckily, Telegram Founder Pavel Durov has promised in 2020 that all the parts of Telegram that have been free — and all the parts dedicated to private messaging — will stay free.
As a result, if you love all the features offered by Telegram you won’t lose anything if you are not subscribed to the premium service.
Clearly, it will be very difficult for Telegram to introduce a subscription service as the platform already has everything that’s needed in a messaging service.
A similar messaging service Discord offers a $10 monthly subscription plan that goes by the name Discord Nitro and offers features like more emoji, better bandwidth for video and audio, improved badges & avatars, larger size media upload, and much more.
That said, once again a majority of these features are already present in Telegram. Do share your thoughts and opinions on Telegram Premium in the comments section below.
