OpenAI Launches ChatGPT App For Android Users

After launching the iOS app for ChatGPT in May 2023, OpenAI has now announced that it is releasing the ChatGPT app for Android devices next week.

Making the announcement on Twitter, OpenAI said that interested users can “pre-order” ChatGPT’s Android app from the Google Play Store starting today.

This official app is free, and syncs your history across devices, and brings you the newest model improvements from OpenAI.

“Announcing ChatGPT for Android! The app will be rolling out to users next week, and you can pre-order in the Google Play Store starting today,” the company said in a tweet.

While OpenAI has not revealed the exact release date for the Android version, the app is likely to come to users in the United States first and then to other countries around the globe.

The ChatGPT app is listed on the Google Play Store for pre-order with a ‘Pre-Register’ button. Interested users can pre-register to get access to the app as soon as it becomes available for download.

All you need to do is go to open the Google Play Store on your Android device and search for the “ChatGPT” app. It will take you to the pre-order page with a ‘Pre-Register’ button.

Once you click on the ‘Pre-Register’ button, a dialog box will appear stating that “You’re pre-registered for this app. We’ll notify you when ChatGPT is available for your device.” However, you can also “Unregister” the pre-order in case you change your mind.

Ever since its launch in November 2022, OpenAI’s ChatGPT has become insanely popular because of its immense capabilities, be it content writing through simple prompts, organizing people’s meals, planning a holiday party, or even writing a song, and much more.

Within a few days of its desktop web version release, the popular AI chatbot managed to garner more than one million users within a week. Since the AI tool is designed to understand and respond to user inquiries intuitively, it has quickly become a favorite website for millions of users to ask queries.

In May 2023, OpenAI expanded the availability of the generative AI-based chatbot by launching the app for iPhone and iPad users in the U.S. Currently, the ChatGPT app on iOS is supported in 152 countries and regions. Check out the complete list here.

By launching iOS and Android apps, OpenAI directly competes with Microsoft’s Bing Chat app, which has been available on both Android and iOS since February.

However, OpenAI’s competitor, Google’s bot Bard, does not yet have a dedicated mobile app but offers access through its web-based interface.
