‘Godfather of revenge porn’ sentenced to 2.5 years in prison

Hunter Moore, the founder of IsAnyoneUp jailed for 2.5 years, will also have a mental evaluation while behind bars

Hunter Moore who is the founder of revenge porn website IsAnyoneUp and also known as the ‘Godfather of Revenge Porn’  has been sentenced to two and a half years in jail.

In addition, the 29-year-old will have his mental health evaluated while behind bars and will have to undergo another three years of supervision after his release.

Moore gained notoriety after he opened his website, IsAnyoneUP which allowed jilted lovers to post intimate pictures of their former beaus and exes in order to shame them publicly, when the relationship broke down.

The privacy advocates have warned that though the prison sentence of 2.5 years looks adequate but the penalty imposed on him seems petty for the crimes he has committed. Moore has been imposed with a penalty of just $2000 for his online misdemeanours.

During the trial it was reveals that Moore hired (co-defendant) Charlie “Gary Jones” Evens to hack into women’s email accounts with the aim of finding private images that could be shared. Gary Jones was sentenced to two years in prison a few weeks back, and will similarly have to undergo three years of supervision.

In addition, Craig Brittain, the founder of IsAnybodyDown has been prevented from sharing photos of people without their permission in an order handed down by the FTC.

Another revenge porn operator, Kevin Bollaert got a more steeper sentence of 18 months jail term earlier this year, for allowing images of 10,000 women without their consent.
