This Tesla Coil Gun is an inspiration taken from video games and brought into the real world

The Tesla Coil Gun actually uses watercooling to keep temperatures intact

The avid gamer would remember the game Wolfenstein, where you would wield the Tesla Gun and burns your enemies to a crisp. The gun’s inspiration was obviously taken from Nikola Tesla. Nikola, in 1927 was asked by a visitor about a string of controversies over some radio patents, and he famously said the following:

“Let the future tell the truth and evaluate each one according to his work and accomplishments. The present is theirs; the future, for which I really worked, is mine.”

While Nikola was unable to reach the consumers the same way Edison had, his legacy continues to live till this very day, and combined with his vision and inspirations taken from games, the Tesla Coil Gun has come into existence. One YouTube channel called Smarter Every Day has turned one of his famous inventions, the Tesla coil, into a handheld gun that blasts out arcs of lightning.

Tesla’s design of the alternating current (AC) electrical supply system and the AC power generators at Niagara Falls are arguably his most famous contributions to society, but the Tesla coil remains one of his coolest, and most beloved by Tesla fans, which is why you continue to see the concept in stories and games till now.

So what exactly is the Tesla Coil Gun? It’s a transformer circuit that pumps out AC electricity in high voltages, spider webbing through the air like lightning. It’s resonant, so you can make trippy music and mesmerizing light shows at the same time. And when it’s handheld, well, you can point the lightning at stuff. It even comes complete with a water cooled pack to keep the internals under check. Check out the video above to see what exactly we mean when we say shooting out arcs of electricity.
