Nokia 6, Nokia 5, and Nokia 3 to launch in India in the second quarter
When Finish start-up HMD Global revealed the Nokia-branded Android smartphones that are now being manufactured and sold under them at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2017 in Barcelona this year, it certainly raised curiosity and excitement among the Nokia fans around the world.
The MWC 2017 saw the launch of three Android powered smartphones, Nokia 6, Nokia 5, and Nokia 3 along with new Nokia 3310 feature phone (2017 revamped version). While the above Android smartphones are already available in China, they are yet to be launched in international markets including India.
However, at a recently held media event on May 8, HMD Global showcased its portfolio of new Nokia smartphones in India giving an insight of what the devices have in store.
So, first letโs have a look at the specifications of Nokia 6, Nokia 5, and Nokia 3.
Nokia 6
The Nokia 6 features a metal-unibody design with a slight curve at the back along with 2.5D Corning Gorilla Glass on top and pixel density of 403 ppi and brightness of 450 nits. It runs Android 7.1.1 Nougat operating system and comes with a 5.5-inch Full HD LCD IPS display. Nokia 6 is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 processor and has 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal memory (expandable up to 128GB). As far as the cameras are concerned, the Nokia 6 packs a 16MP primary camera on the rear and 8MP front shooter for selfies. It is a dual hybrid SIM smartphone powered by a 3,000mAh battery, which is non-removable.
Nokia 5
Nokia 5 comes with 5.2-inch HD display (1280 x 720) pixels resolution along with 2.5D sculpted Corning Gorilla Glass on top. The Nokia 5 Android dual SIM smartphone will be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 processor and come with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage (expandable up to 128GB). Like Nokia 6, Nokia 5 too is powered by a 3,000mAh battery. It will have a 13MP rear shooter and 8MP wide-angle front camera and runs the latest Android 7.1.1 Nougat (with Google Assistant).
Nokia 3
Nokia 3 is the smallest model with a 5.0-inch HD IPS LCD display, MediaTek quad-core 1.3GHz processor, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of in-built memory along with a 2,650 mAh battery. It is further equipped with 8-megapixel rear and front cameras. It is available in four colours: Silver White, Matte Black, Tempered Blue and Copper White.
What are the pros of Nokia 6, Nokia 5 and Nokia 3 in terms of design and specifications?
Nokia 6 and Nokia 5 are premium build smartphones with metal-unibody design making it the impressive of the lot. With no antenna bands running at the back of these devices, Nokia 6 and Nokia 5 are subtle, solid and have a good grip to hold. On the other hand, Nokia 3 too is a solid phone with a plastic polycarbonate body that doesnโt look cheap or plastic in nature in any way.
The premium displays of Nokia 6 and Nokia 5 makes the viewing angles look good and offer ample brightness. The same thing is applicable for Nokia 3 too.
Nokia phones will sport a pure Android UI (user interface), as they donโt come pre-loaded with bloatware. They offer a simple, yet clear, UI experience to users.
Further, Nokia claims that three Android smartphones will ensure low battery usage due to optimization of the software. Also, Nokia is promising monthly security and speedy Android updates for these phones due to its close working relationship with Google.
What are the cons of Nokia 6, Nokia 5 and Nokia 3 in terms of design and specifications?
Nokia 6 and Nokia 5 are running the new generation of Qualcomm’s SoCs, which is Snapdragon 430, as claimed by Nokia. However, the Snapdragon 430 was always behind the 600/652 by a year already and now with the recent announcement of Snapdragon 660 and 630 mobile platforms by Qualcomm, these devices have gone further away.
Further, the apps on the Nokia phones takes a few seconds longer to open as well as at the time of scrolling than it should ideally do. However, this may change with further software and hardware optimizations, when the final products are launched, claims HMD Global.
While specs of the cameras of all three of Nokiaโs smartphones may look good, the cameras are neither fast, nor do they seem to click photos that are really impressive. We can only hope that the final products have an adjustment or overhaul in the camera sensors.
Price and Sale date
Nokia 6, Nokia 5 and Nokia 3 are expected to compete in the mid-range category in the price range of Rs. 10,000 โ Rs. 20,000 in India. These phones are likely to see a second quarter release, which should be either in April, May or June. The Nokia 3, Nokia 5 and Nokia 6 will be available for buying from both online and offline stores. HMD Global has confirmed that it will have service centres in at least 250 Indian cities for these phones.
While design and specifications of Nokia 6, Nokia 5 and Nokia 3 look good on paper, whether or not will these devices be able to match up to its legacy and usersโ expectations, only time will tell.
