Sony Officially Reveals The Design For The PlayStation 5 Console

Sony finally revealed the much-awaited next-generation console, PlayStation 5 (PS5) at “The Future of Gaming” event on June 11.

The PS5 console features a white-and-black design aesthetics that match the new DualSense controller, complete with blue accent lighting.

Sony’s PlayStation 5 will be available in two variants. One model will be a standard model with a 4K Blu-ray drive, while the other model called ‘PlayStation 5 Digital Edition’ will lack a disc drive, which means that it will only be able to play downloaded digital games. Since the PS5 Digital Edition lacks an optical drive, it is substantially thinner than the regular model.

PS5 Dualsense Controller

Unlike the Nintendo Switch which is a hybrid console, Sony’s PS5 can be used vertically as well as horizontally. It also appears to have vents of the top for heat dissipation.

In addition to the actual PS5, Sony has also revealed a ton of accessories, including a DualSense Charging Station, a Media Remote for those who want to use it to stream video, a new HD camera, as well as a Pulse 3D Wireless Headset.

“The PS5 gameplay experience will be the same, so the choice is all yours. While there are some slight differences in the look of each model, for the overall design, we wanted to deliver a console that’s bold, stunning, and unlike any previous generation of PlayStation,” the company says in the video.

Sid Shuman, senior director at SIE Content Communications, in a blog post provided more details about the PS5 design following its revelation.

Shuman said: “Today was an exciting day for gamers around the world, as the PlayStation 5 showcase granted us our first look at PS5 games under development… and culminated with the reveal of the PS5 system itself.

“Actually, two PS5 systems.

“At PS5’s launch, we will offer two options: a PlayStation®5 console with an Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive and a PlayStation®5 Digital Edition without a disc drive. The PS5 gameplay experience will be the same, so the choice is all yours.

“While there are some slight differences in the look of each model, for the overall design, we wanted to deliver a console that’s bold, stunning, and unlike any previous generation of PlayStation.”

Sony also introduced new games into existing, popular franchises, including “Ratchet & Clank,” “Spider-Man,” “Gran Turismo,” “Resident Evil,” “Hitman,” “Horizon,” as well as a remake of “Demon’s Souls” was also announced.

The PlayStation 5 is expected to arrive during this year’s holiday season. However, Sony has not revealed the exact release date or the price for its next-gen console. Also, the pricing of the accessories remains unknown at present.
