Reports about Google reportedly working on its own-brand smartwatch have been doing the rounds since 2018. Back then, Miles Barr, Google’s Director of Engineering for Wear OS, had said that Google has no plans to release a smartwatch anytime soon, as its primary focus was on their partners and on improving and developing Wear OS.
Now, a reliable tipster Jon Prosser has claimed that Google’s first-ever smartwatch, most likely to be named the Google Pixel Watch, could launch on May 26, 2022.
Back, in April 2021, Presser had uploaded a video on YouTube showcasing the leaked marketing images of the alleged Pixel Watch with the launch date as October 2021. However, the launch got delayed with him later tweeting that it is due in Q1 of 2022.
According to Presser, the Google Pixel Watch will now launch on May 26th. “I’m hearing that Google is planning on launching it on Thursday, May 26th — over year since we leaked it. This is the first we’ve seen a set date on the device behind the scenes. Google is known for pushing back dates — but if they do, we’ll know,” he tweeted.

As far specs of the Pixel Watch are concerned, it is rumored to feature a black circular dial and will be available in three colorful straps – Blue, Orange, and Grey. It is expected to come with Samsung’s Exynos chipset and a Fitbit integration into Google’s Wear OS. It will also have basic fitness tracking features, including step counting and a heart rate monitor.
Additionally, it is rumored to feature the next-generation -generation of Google Assistant, which will track users’ usage patterns and adapt to their activity. It will also display curated information like plans, reminders, your keep lists, etc. based on users’ preferences.
Coming to the release date of Pixel Watch, May 26 does make sense, as it is the same time when Google I/O – the company’s developer conference – takes place. But as Google is known for “pushing dates”, it remains to be seen if the report turns out to be true.
