“Our customers count on their iPhone every day, and with iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max, we’re delivering more advancements than any other iPhone. iPhone 14 Pro introduces a camera system that empowers every user — from the casual user to the professional — to take their best photos and video, and innovative new technologies like the Always-On display and the Dynamic Island, which offers new interactions for notifications and activities,” said Greg Joswiak, Apple’s Senior Vice President of Worldwide Marketing.

“Groundbreaking safety capabilities bring users even more security, offering help when they need it most. And with the incredibly powerful and efficient A16 Bionic chip and all-day battery life, this is the best iPhone yet.”

So, here’s everything you need to know about the new iPhone 14 Pro and the iPhone 14 Pro Max:

Design And Display

iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max feature a ceramic shield front, textured matt glass back, and a stainless steel design.

While the iPhone 14 Pro sports a 6.1-inch OLED display with a 2556 x 1179-pixel resolution, the Pro Max comes with a 6.7-inch OLED display with a 2796 x 1290-pixel resolution.

iPhone 14 Pro Max

Both models include a new Super Retina XDR display with ProMotion that features the Always-On display for the first time ever on iPhone, enabled by a new 1Hz refresh rate and multiple power-efficient technologies. It will support information like time, date reminders, calendar events, and weather without having to wake up the iPhone to display it.

Further, the notch is being replaced by a pill-shaped cut-out that houses a revamped TrueDepth camera unit for Face ID, selfies, and video calls. Notifications and alerts will now pop out of the notch in an animation, which Apple calls the “Dynamic Island.”

Without impeding content on the screen, Dynamic Island maintains an active state to allow users more accessible access to controls with a simple tap-and-hold.

Ongoing background activities like Maps, Music, or a timer remain visible and interactive, and third-party apps in iOS 16 that provide information like sports scores and ride-sharing with Live Activities can take advantage of Dynamic Island.

Further, the panels on the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max models support a massive 1,600 nits peak brightness (HDR) and up to 2000 nits peak brightness (outdoor), which is twice as bright as iPhone 13 Pro.

It also supports HDR with Dolby Vision, HDR10, HLG, and adaptive refresh rates up to 120Hz. In addition, the handsets also offer a 20,00,000:1 contrast ratio (typical), a Wide color gamut, and 460 PPI.

Processor

The iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max feature a new A16 Bionic – the fastest chip in a smartphone- as claimed by Apple. It has 16 billion transistors and uses a 4nm manufacturing process.

With two high-performance cores and four high-efficiency cores, the new 6-core CPU is up to 40 percent faster than the competition.

A16 Bionic also features an accelerated 5-core GPU with 50 percent more memory bandwidth. Further, it has a new 16-core Neural Engine that is capable of nearly 17 trillion operations per second.

Apple claims that the chip delivers more performance with a fraction of the power compared to the competition.

Storage

Starting at 128GB, the iPhone 14 Pro and the iPhone 14 Pro Max can be configured with up to 1TB of internal storage with no option for SD card expansion.

Camera

For the first time ever, the Pro line-up features a new 48MP Main camera with a quad-pixel sensor, which combines every four pixels into one large quad pixel equivalent to 2.44 µm. The quad-pixel sensor also enables a 2x Telephoto option that uses the middle 12 megapixels of the sensor for full-resolution photos and 4K videos with no digital zoom.

This delivers optical quality at a familiar focal length, which is great for features like Portrait mode.

It also brings benefits to pro workflows, optimizing for detail in ProRAW’s format. iPhone now shoots ProRAW at 48MP with unprecedented detail, enabling new creative workflows for pro users.

Further, other pro camera system upgrades and features include a new 12MP UltraWide camera with 1.4 µm pixels which is said to deliver sharper images with more detail, an improved Telephoto camera that offers 3x optical zoom, a new front TrueDepth camera with an ƒ/1.9 aperture, a new Adaptive True Tone flash, and powerful computational photography benefits like Night mode, Smart HDR 4, Portrait mode with Portrait Lighting, and more.

In addition, there is a new Action mode that adjusts to significant shakes, motion, and vibrations, even when the video is being captured in the middle of the action.

Also, the cinematic mode in iPhone 14 Pro models can now do up to 4K HDR at 30 fps and 4K video recording at 24 fps, 25 fps, 30 fps, or 60 fps.

Crash Detection And Emergency SOS Via Satellite

The entire iPhone 14 line-up comes with Crash Detection on iPhone feature. With a new dual-core accelerometer capable of detecting G-force measurements of up to 256Gs and a new high dynamic range gyroscope, this feature can now detect a severe car crash and automatically dial emergency services when a user is unconscious or unable to reach their iPhone.

Further, the iPhone 14 line-up also introduces Emergency SOS via satellite (only in the U.S. and Canada for now) feature, which allows users to manually share their location over satellite with Find My when there is no cellular or Wi-Fi connection, providing a sense of security when hiking or camping off the grid.

Battery

Both models come with a built?in rechargeable lithium?ion battery. Apple claims that the iPhone 14 Pro comes with 23 hours of battery life, while the iPhone 14 Pro Max has 29 hours of battery life. They are capable of fast charging up to 50% charge in around 30 minutes with a 20W adapter or higher (available separately).

Connectivity

On the connectivity front, the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max models will support 5G, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/6, dual-band, hotspot, and Bluetooth 5.3.

Also, Apple has removed the SIM tray from iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max for U.S. models to enable users to set up their devices more quickly and easily.

Other Features

iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max are splash, water, and dust resistant with a rating of IP68 (maximum depth of 6 meters up to 30 minutes). Further, Apple is giving Fitness+ to all iPhone users with the launch of the iPhone 14 series. Also, both the models will come with Apple’s latest operating system, iOS 16.
