Apple Is Working On A New-Gen MacBook Pro With M4 Chip

Tech giant Apple has already started working on a new MacBook Pro model powered by the yet-to-be-announced M4 chip.

The news comes from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, who on Monday briefly mentioned about the upcoming M4 chip during a Q&A section in his weekly Power On newsletter.

According to Gurman, Apple has “just started formal development” on its next-generation MacBook Pro, which will feature the latest M4 chipset.

However, he did not provide much information about the new M4 chip.

For those unaware, Apple introduced its first M3-powered MacBook Pro in October 2023. This model uses the same 3nm technology as the A17 Pro chip in the iPhone 15 Pro.

In addition, the latest iMac, MacBook Air, and MacBook Pro models were powered by M3 chips.

Considering the time interval at which Apple introduced its M silicon chips for Macs — the M1 chip (November 2020), the M2 chip (June 2022), and the M3 chip (October 2023)—we can expect the new M4 chip to be released in the first half of 2025.

The M4 chip is rumored to be similar to the upcoming A18 Pro chip which is expected to power this year’s iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max models.

Both chips are expected to feature more Neural Engine cores to handle AI-related tasks, which are rumored to come with iOS 18 and macOS 15.

Since Apple has just started developing the M4 MacBook Pro, we can expect more rumors, news, and leaks in the following months.
