Spotify Premium Users Can Build A Playlist Using Text Prompts

Spotify, the popular audio streaming service, introduced a new feature on Monday that allows Premium subscribers to create personalized AI playlists using simple text prompts.

The feature, called AI Playlist, is currently in beta and won’t produce results for non-music-related prompts, like “current events” or “specific brands.”

Further, the AI playlist is available for Spotify Premium subscribers on Android and iOS devices in the United Kingdom and Australia, and the feature will soon be expanded to more markets over the coming months.

“Looking for “an indie folk playlist to give my brain a big warm hug,” “relaxing music to tide me over during allergy season,” or “a playlist that makes me feel like the main character”? AI Playlist has you covered. Whether you’re a beginner or an expert playlist creator, AI Playlist pairs our powerful personalization technology with AI to deliver that perfect musical mix just for you,” Spotify wrote in the blog post.

Spotify Premium users can enter text for genre, mood, artist, decade, or any combination of these to create playlists. They can even use prompts that reference locations, animals, activities, movie characters, colors, emojis, and or even unique prompts like “songs to serenade my cat” or “beats to battle a zombie apocalypse.”

According to Spotify, the most successful playlists are generated with prompts that include a combination of genres, moods, artists, or decades.

To find AI Playlist, Spotify Premium users need to open the Spotify mobile app and choose “Your Library” at the bottom-right corner of their screen.

  • From Your Library, click the “+” button at the top-right corner of the app and select “AI Playlist.”
  • Users can either select one of the pre-curated prompts or manually enter prompts of their own to generate a playlist.
  • After the playlist is created, users can easily manage the selection of songs by previewing and deleting tracks. They can simply swipe left to remove any song from the playlist. Users can also revise and refine the playlists generated by AI Playlist by using commands such as “less upbeat” or “more pop.”
  • Once done, users need to tap “Create,” and the new playlist will be saved automatically in Your Library.

Currently, the Spotify Premium Individual plan costs $10.99 per month, the Premium Duo plan costs $14.99 per month, the Premium Family plan costs $16.99 per month, and the Premium Student plan costs $5.99 per month.
