After waiting almost two years since the AI revolution, Apple finally announced Apple Intelligence. It’s a personal AI service integrated into iPhone, iPad and Mac.
Apple made the announcement during the WWDC 2024 keynote on June 10th, 2024. The keynote also witnessed the announcement of iOS 18, iPadOS 18 and macOS Sequoia.
Apple intelligence is heavily integrated with all these devices and will be available on Apple Silicon devices.
In the case of the iPhone, you should have an iPhone 15 Pro or higher to benefit from AI features. On the other hand, you should have an M-based iPad or Mac to make the best use of Apple intelligence.
Even though the company did not provide an exhaustive list, it highlighted some of the features that can improve the iPhone experience with the help of AI.
All these features will be available on iPhone, iPad, and Mac in Fall 2024.
A More Powerful Siri
With the help of Apple Intelligence, Siri has become one of the most potent personal AI assistants.
Siri now offers more contextual support while understanding what is on the screen.
Apple has also integrated support knowledge with Siri to give you step-by-step instructions to enable a feature or make some changes.
Due to its integration with personal applications, Siri can also bring up information even when you are not specific about the prompt.
AI Across Apple OSs
For instance, language-based capabilities are available across all three operating systems. You can use AI to rewrite, proofread, or compose content as you need.
Similarly, in Mail apps, Artificial Intelligence can not only prioritize the most important emails but also provide a summary of the email instead of showing the first two lines.
Apple intelligence also introduces the option for prioritizing notifications and inserting rich content, such as recordings and images, into notes and other applications.
Apple Intelligence brings a new app, Image Playground, which allows users to create images and sketches by inputting specific themes and elements.
Users can also create GenMojis, custom emojis that may take inspiration from ideas or other photos.
Confirming the many rumors regarding this, Apple has integrated ChatGPT into Siri. However, due to privacy concerns, Siri will ask permission whenever it needs to use ChatGPT so that users can always opt out.
Privacy and AI
Like other Apple products, Apple Intelligence also promotes the aspect of privacy.
The company highlights that all the AI functions will be processed on-device, and even Apple cannot access the information.
However, whenever a larger AI model is required, Apple Intelligence will use Private Computing, a server infrastructure maintained by Apple using Apple Silicon chips.
