chrome://net-internals/#dns – Clear/flush DNS Cache on Chrome

Google Chrome browser has its own DNS Caching to improve browsing speed and performance.

The browser caches and stores the IP address and all other NS (Name servers) entries of a website when visited.

This cache is stored for a while and may be needed to be cleared if a site changes its DNS entries.

In order to do so you will need to clear or flush your google chrome DNS cache by using chrome://net-internals/#dns in order to access the site.

Before proceeding to these steps you need to save all the works on the browser if any.


How to Clear Google Chrome DNS Cache by chrome://net-internals/#dns

Here is how to flush the DNS cache in the Chrome browser.

1. Open a tab in Chrome browser and enter the following URL

chrome://net-internals/#dns

chrome clear host cache

2. Enter the “Clear host cache” button.

You have successfully flushed the DNS cache on the Chrome browser.

3. Now open a new tab on Chrome and type the following URL and press enter.

chrome://net-internals/#sockets

4. Click on Flush Socket Pools.

If you see the message “May break Pages With Active Connections” this means you need to save all the work, if any tab is open with a logged-in account, it may be logged out.

5. Restart Chrome.

If clearing the DNS cache on Chrome does not resolve the issue you may want to try flushing the DNS cache of Your device.


Flushing DNS cache on Windows 11/10/8/7

Open the command prompt as administrator and type ipconfig /flushdns and press enter.


Flushing DNS cache on Linux

Open the terminal and type the following command

$ sudo service network-manager restart

Flushing DNS cache on MAC

Open the terminal app on your MAC PC or Macbook and type the following command

$ sudo dscacheutil -flushcache
sudo killall -HUP mDNSResponder
