Following Apple’s much-anticipated decision to allow game emulators, RetroArch has made a comeback to app store for iOS and iPadOS.
RetroArch is one of the most popular multi-console game emulators available for iOS, Android, Mac, and PC.
However, due to the App Store’s restrictions, users had to sideload the emulator on iOS.
Now that there is an official App Store version, iOS/iPadOS users can play thousands of games. The official App Store description has listed a total of 69 emulation cores.
RetroArch Can Emulate All
The list includes cores for retro consoles from Sony, Nintendo, Atari, Commodore, etc. In particular, you can emulate different versions of Sony PlayStation, including the PlayStation Portable.
RetroArch can run the same PPSSPP emulator, which got an official App Store version earlier today.
You should have a device iOS 14.2/iPadOS 14.2/tvOS 11.0/visionOS 1.0 or later to use the App Store version of RetroArch.

Relies on Core Programs
Interestingly, RetroArch is not an emulator in itself. Instead, it works as a repository of emulator cores. Therefore, users have the option to install only the emulator cores that they want.
It is also one of the few emulator apps offering features like custom overlays, shaders, game artwork, AI translations, soft patching, Save states, and MFi controller support.
Retro gaming enthusiasts love RetroArch for its stability and continuous software support.
However, not all these features may be available on all emulator cores.
RetroArch developers added in the announcement that a macOS version for the Mac App Store is in the works. They are also working on a brand-new version of RetroArch, which is positively packing more features.
